Hey all,
I posted here a while ago after my son had a seizure and we were not sure
that is was related to a low BGL or something else.
Well, we had the EEG and the results came back as a normal reading, but the
neuro is still not convinced we are in the all clear as he thinks his BGL
was not low enough for the tonic  clonic seizure he had and b/c in he past
he has had some suspect
neurological problems which he thought were due to a "mitrocondrial "
condition..He said it is a case of waiting and watching I guess...
But I am relieved with the results as  I feel   confident that is was
related to his BGL levels, his sugars were a tad low and this may have been
b/c he dropped suddenly or perhaps was lower and got higher after a liver
dump??? Who knows?
Thank you all so much for your advice and support...Don't know if I will be
posting soon.I may pop on to discuss how others here who have diabetes
feel about burn out re: diabetes...He ( my son) is really resenting his
illness at the moment, but with Christmas approaching, he may cheer up as we
do let his have some treats in the silly season and all kids love this time
of the year.
Have a great Christmas everyone..may it be safe and kind to all.

I hope to come back, I tend to waste my time on other newsgroups where I
could be spending time with nicer people here!
Some of the forums I go to have some pretty rude posters...

I think most newsgroups have their share of rude people, one
of the worst was a clip art sharing newsgroup, lol. Yes, I
am Aussie, I live 1 hour's drive north from Sydney on the
NSW Central Coast.

why shouldn't he have treats any time of the year?

so long as it is not an every day thing, any type 1 child can have
treats, sweets, ice cream etc.

pumping kids can do this the easiest, but those taking injections can
also do this when correctly counting carbs.

but like I said, it can't be an every day thing.

Oh, you know what I mean, he does have sweets more oftne than I would care
to admit..LOL, he is only nine...slurpies( or are they slush puppies or
squishies in the US?) are a favorite  in Summer, but I try to not let him
over indulge..
We tend to eat well, but he still gets his chocolate and chips ...Christmas
is probrably a time where we can ALL overindulge and accept is.

True....we will be going down the pump option soon...

> but like I said, it can't be an every day thing.

Exactly, but if it were up to him, it would be all the time> He sneaks in
food he should not have often when we are not looking, I have to hide
treats. Having coalicas makes it harder., bummer that not all glueton free
food is low GI..Doh!..

I used to get a box of sugar free candies and later as more products
became available that were low carb and no sugar added they got added
to the list.  My grandparents sent these to me every year during
holidays and birthdays, even my siblings birthdays got me a box of
treats.

now the gluten free diet is where I am stumped.  HOWEVER, we do have 1
teen here with that same dietary restriction caused by the same
illness.  Please speak with Madison about diet options.  She is just
learning.  And the two(3) of you may be able to teach each other
something the other didn't yet know.

Darrel Lea make a rather nice tasting plain chocolate - low
carb.

Oh! You or him? I hope Madison read this, she's having a really bad time
trying to cope with celiac and T1 together...

I bought myself a book by the Drs Eades called Low Carb Comfort Food for
Christmas - I haven't done more than flick through it, but many of the
recipes are marked gluten-free as well as (of course) low carb. It is
possible : )

I generally prefer to try 'em first - not to mention the copyright issues -
but here's a waffle recipe that looks very good and versatile:

8oz cream cheese, soft
5 eggs
1/4 cup soy protein powder
1t baking powder
1 1/4 cup almond meal
1/4 cup whey protein powder
1/4 cup heavy cream

Of course, you'd have to check that all components above are gluten free in
the variant you buy. I know my MIL has to hunt for gf baking powder, for
instance.

6-7 servings depending on the size of your waffle machine (or make them as
pancakes); total CHO 28.6g, total protein 109.8g

Beat cheese, cream and 2 eggs until smooth, thick and fluffy.
Add remaining eggs one at a time, beating after each.
Stir flours in until mixed. Add melted butter if desired.
Bake in waffle iron 2-4 mins or until done.
Frozen waffles may be reheated in a toaster.

Fresh waffles may be eaten with fruit, nut butter, cream, syrups,
etc,etc,etc... or savoury with melted cheese, or as a pizza base, or with
garlic butter melted over, or topped with hot tuna melt...

stale waffles make breadcrumbs (straight or herbed), or crumbled as a
cereal. They also suggest crumbling, mixing with egg white and butter, and
using as a crust for flans, pies, etc.

I'll be making their tortilla recipe soon, as my supplier seems to have
stopped importing tacos <sniff> - I'll post that when I do, that's gf too.

For an absolute huge shipping fee. I found the best way to
pay normal price for books was to go to a large bookstore
chain and ask them to order it in for you and you just pay
the recommended retail price.

just picked up several copies of "Miracle - a celebration of new life"
by Celine Dion and Anne Geddes for 4.99 U$D each.  Originally 65.00
U$D/85.00 C$D.  www.annegeddes.com

And no shipping charges.

G'day G'day Jan et al,

Readers might not understand "absolutely huge shipping fee".
Think in terms of adding 50 to 70% to the price.  For some reason New
Zealand and presumably Australia qualify for the worst shipping rates
from the USA.

Amazon sell perfumes these days but wont ship them to New Zealand
thanks to the anti-terrorist regulations.  I presume they must go by
road transport to US customers.

Same. The one time I have really appreciated Amazon is in buying
reprints or science and maths texts.  The reprint itself costs next to
nothing and the shipping is then not so bad.

Best wishes,
