I heard putting broken glass in your garbage disposal helps grind up
tough vegetables and cleans it good too. Anybody tried it yet?

Not recommended. The glass can dull the blades. It can get stuck.

Try putting ice down there.

Also, see what your owner's manual says about cleaning the disposer.

That should finish off your garbage disposal. When we bought our new
apartment, and we had our tour with the deficiencies officer, he told us to
put a tray of ice cubes through every month or so. It helps get rid of the
fat and apparently sharpens the blades.

Good luck

The ice won't sharpen the blades but will help get rid of bad odors by
knocking loose stuck on gunk. Throwing a tablespoon of baking soda in with
the ice before starting the disposal also helps.
