Diana, posted info a couple of weeks ago on how to get a free One
Touch Ultra 2.  Mine came a few days ago.  Complete kit, meter, lancet
device, test solution, 10 strips and lances, plus a disk that I
haven't investigated as of yet.

I have compared results between my old trusty Advantage with the Ultra
2 and so far are the readings have been within 2 points (mg/dl)at all
times.

The Ultra 2 has several good points over the Advantage.  Simple canned
comments can be attached to each test, very small sample needed, some
averaging functions and very fast results compared to my old meter.

Think I'll keep it!

Next vist with the Doc is in a little over two weeks so I hope to get
a script for strips for the new meter and use it full time.

Same here, arrived today. Looks very similar to the original Ultra and the
readings are very close also. The U2 uses the same strips as the Ultra and
Ultrasmart. RB has a good summation below. The case is nicer.....  :))

Mine arrived a few days ago, but I haven't had a chance to play with it
yet.

Diana's original post for a free meter included this link:
https://www.lifescan.com/products/simplestart/

Not everyone who goes there is offered the free meter, though -- it
appears to depend on how you fill out the form.  (It worked for me; my
new meter arrived last week.)

If that one doesn't get you a free meter, you could try this:
http://dlife.com/dLife/do/ShowRegistration
(be sure to check the box that says "Yes, I would like a free meter".)

Absolutely amazing! I've never been able to readings that close. Even with
the same meter, same finger, within seconds.

I now have three meters: an Ultra One Touch, the new freebie Ultra 2,
and an Ascensia Contour, all within 3-5 points of one another most of
the time, though the first several readings on the Ultra 2 were way
higher, they now seem to be in line.  I'm still double checking it
though, to see if it's reliable.

That's absolutely amazing to me. I'd certainly like to know what I'm doing
wrong. I have three different meters and none of them are that consistent,
even with themselves - using my blood or control solutions.

I was kind of shocked to find that the Ultra One Touch and Ascensia were
consistently within 3 points of one another, so much so that I kept
doing each test on both machines for a while, just to make sure it
wasn't a fluke.  I'm not sure why the Ultra 2 gave me much higher
readings a few times, and I'm not ready to trust it to be consistent,
not til a lot more close tests.

I just picked up the UltraSmart on sale and found the same problem.
Sure hope it settles out because the darn thing started out with 2
readings  taken within 10 seconds being over 40 points apart (and
they were both higher than the PrecisionXtra I've been using).

If you get your strips at Walgreens they are $88 per hundred. If you are
having medicare pay for them they like 200 strip quanties.

With a perscription from my endo Medicare covers me for 400 every three
months without a whimper so far.
