Blocking Andrew Chung.

I just started a kill file for Andrew Chung.  I notice this guy tries his
hardest
to prevent those that do not want to read his posts from kill filing him.
just today i noticed he changed his name about 5 times in one week to avoid
kill files.
A Dr. not mature enough to let those that would rather not read his posts
kill filter him.
i am beging to believe that he is not posting with his real name but perhaps
he is posting with a name of a person he does not like.  that is the only
reason
I can come up with for him wanting to give Chung a bad name.

I do believe its time to share - How do you kill file Andrew Chung?

I have an old newsreader and I have him set in newsgroup filter by name.
He always comes up in blue when I click on filtered messages so I can
read him or not, but I don't see him at all, except in replies, if I
don't click on filtered messages.

But most of the replies come from the idiots in other
newsgroups.
Cheri - 04 Dec 2006 22:19 GMT
True, but those replying to him come up in blue too, so the whole thread
is now blue. Like right now, since the subject has Andrew Chung in it,
all of you are coming up in blue too. Of course, I will read the people
I know, and leave Andy, Cary, Markdp, W, etc. unread. :-)

I KF all of his many "incarnations" and anyone who has replied to his
crossposts that I do not recognize as members of ASD.  I doubt that most of
his responders really care about ASD, they just end up crossposting because
he started the thread.  It seems lately I've had to KF many of those though.
It's like a daily chore.

That's why I like the ignore conversation method. Then set
the view to hide read and ignored messages. I was also
kf'ing lots of posters every day, this way is better for me.

Once in a great while, Mr. Chung says something worthwhile.

However, I have learned to ignore him. I just read messages from other
people. Very rare do I respond to him anymore.

Every time he comes in with a different address or whatever I just add
that identity to my killfile. I also killfile anyone who answers him
and is not a regular contributor to ASD.

That's what I do too, Chuck.  Only problem is that he does manage to get
people into discussions with him, and I end up killfiling so many people.

Tabloids are popular at he supermarket. Do you ever look at them. Thats
freedom. Brits love them too. So you just need to deal with Dr.Chung.
His science ain't too bad. Just disregard his personality. I had a
surgeon one time who was the "pits" so far as propaganda but he was
great with the knife. We are all in this together.

Tabloids are far less annoying,  Chung is wrong for changing his sig to
prevent those that would like to have the freedom of killfiltering him.
i dont know its kind of funny that he keeps talking about God and Jesus and
then works extra hard to annoy people that have done him no harm.

If I don't recognize them as regulars here in ASD then they are
probably posting from another group since Chung cross-posts so much.
Consequently they go into the crowded little room I call my killfile.

IMHO Chung's biggest SIN is crossposting. I can live with most of his
religious expression but cannot condone his crossposting. He almost hijacks
this group by causing people from other groups to reply to his crossposts.
Just kill filing him does not stop this.

All you computer guru's out there, can you come up with a way to eliminate
all posts that are crossposted? I normally use outlook express and don't see
a way to do it. I want a crosspost filter.

Xnews and Agent will both filter anything cross posted to more than 2
or more groups, the number is set by the user.  you can kill file by
subject line as well.

Is there a home site for XNEWS? I see it on many download sites as freeware.

I tried Agent but never got the hang of it. After a week of trying it, I
went back to Outlook Express.

I couldn't figure out XNews at all, (sorry Mack - I tried).
I also downloaded Thunderbird and couldn't find my way
around it easily and it was terribly slow. You also seemed
to have to go thru too many steps for each thing you wanted
to do. It did have an option to state how many crossposted
newsgroups you would allow. I am back with OE now but it's
filtering is not fabulous - very basic.

Xnews is free ware only, and is "hosted" almost everywhere.  As such
there many be questionable sources to download from, that's why you
should get it from reputable places like PC World's download section:

it's guaranteed not to have a anything malicious installed with it.

I download and installed Xnews, it is awesome. When it downloaded all
headers from ASD, it downloaded them all the back to April 2003. That is
a lot further back than Outlook Express had. I probably have more ASD
headers than Google.

The only downside is, I wonder how much space on my HDD this takes. I
can't find the files, they must be stored in a hidden directory.

I haven't tried to use the filters yet.

What I do is temporarily subscribe to the group most often originating the
cross posts, and go to that group, go to Edit, then down to "mark all as
"read" and poof, I can go to my regular newsgroup and all the annoying cross
posts from that other group have disappeared.   But of course, you have to
have your newsgroup reader set to only show unread posts.

>I do believe its time to share - How do you kill file Andrew Chung?

I use Forte Agent, and I have done three things. I should note that
Chung is the only person I treat like this, simply because of his
habit of constantly changing email addresses to get around filters.

1) I have a global filter that deletes any message to any group where
the "From:" header contains "heartmdphd.com". This filter is set to
never expire.

2) I have a similar permanent global delete filter for messages where
"From:" contains "Andrew B. Chung".

3) As he always seems to cross-post to sci.med.cardiology, I use
Agent's cross-post management to mark as read any messages in other
groups which also appear in s.m.c. I never look in the s.m.c folder
and Agent has been told to delete all the messages in it every time I
do a check for new messages on the server.

Since I started doing this I have seen exactly zero messages from the
problem person. I'm not particularly worried by people responding to
him, because I don't read every message in every thread anyway. If it
ever became a problem I could tell Agent to ignore any thread in which
he had anything to say, but this can cause false positives. (I have a
filter like this for someone who posts porn to one group, and I am not
interested in seeing people quote him while being simultaneously
outraged).

Is Forte Agent free? Is it an email program too? If so, can
you set up  email to go to specific folders rather than the
inbox?

Free Agent is free but has almost no filtering, the full version of
agent is not free and has the better filtering.  both work with email
and newsgroups.

I don't know about the free version, but the paid one is an email
client.

It could be something you only get with the paid version, but you can
redirect email to any folder you like based on a variety of filtering
criteria, including regular expressions.

I don't use it for mail, but I can see how it would be useful for
mailing lists where you might want to act on entire threads. One nice
thing it has (in common with Pegasus Mail) is the ability to attach a
persona to a folder so that anything answered from within that folder
gets the correct signature and header info without you having to
remember to change anything.

Could you explain for a dummy, step by step, exactly how you

has interesting other applications, such as adding religious
groups to the list.

while I am very curious as to the logic that would come to this conclusion

Sadly enough, it does appear that Tom was being pounced for the sake
of his being Tom.  I knew instantly where he was going with the pun-ny
title.  Working in the business that I do, the name that Tom came up
with isn't really that unthinkable.

I work as a land title researcher.  Truly, some of the names that I
run across leave the "American" mind reeling.  For example:

Le Zee Wang and his wife Mai Tang.  There's a million of them.  I
think I will run the name Tom came up with just for giggles.  I
wouldn't be surprized if I actually found it.

Some names are just unfortunate results of the choice of marriage
partners:

Minnie Bubes come to mind.

I went to high school with twin girls who were named, and I will use
their first initials for the sake of some anonymity, S. K. Kuntz. Of
course they insisted it was pronounced "Koontz" but you can guess what
most of the boys called them.

I also remember as a boy there was supposedly a lady in Texas named
Ima Hogg.

During the "Walt Disney Davey Crocket" craze almost every boy just had
to have a genuine coonskin hat. I had one and it was probably the
warmest hat I ever had. Of course we were always grabbing the tail on
the hat of the guy in front of us in line and pulling it off. I wonder
how much the price of a coonskin pelt dropped when they went out of
style.

I like dry humor, sarcastic humor, some caustic humor, and just plain
humor. I think most of the posters here have a great sense of humor, and
make me laugh often. Having the ability to laugh at a variety of things,
including yourself, can get you through a lot IMO. :-)

I don't think english is coonskin's mother tongue. If not, he/she would
likely have no idea of the joke(s). It would be easy to mistake it for
something else.

I  make it simple, I do not open any post I do not want to read.
A post has no meaning unless it is honest and reasonable.
REad one--------skip the rest.  I do not need a kill file.

I have only been able to set any thread he appears in to
"igonore". Obviously his groupies keep making subject
changes within the threads but it's the best I can come up
with. I can't believe the mentality of not just Chung but
his groupies, how they have taken over a Madison thread with
all kinds of crap and filth. Have none of these people got
kids of their own or loved ones with health problems? The
scum of humanity.

I use Forte Agent as my newsreader.  It has the handy feature of being
able to block any crossposted posts (those that are posted to more
than one newsgroup).  Since Chung with his demon-spawned mega-ego
ALWAYS crossposts to multiple newsgroups, the crosspost filter works
beautifully on him.  Haven't seen a Chung post for a couple of months
now!           :-D

You might call me "technologically challanged!".  However, one of the
GREAT advantages of being my age is that if I don't want to learn
something, I DON'T HAVE TO. Kill files defeat me so I  JUST IGNORE
CHUNG.  His name come up?  I skip it, whether initiating or in a
thread.  Easiest method known to man or woman - skip, ignore, pass
over,
don't bother with it...........

his name does not change but his address does.  remove the address

I just kill file his entire domain. Its been working well for me for a long
time now. I did have to update and add a second domain when he started using
truth.com as well as heartMDphd.com but its only a minor glitch and for the
most part of the last couple of years I've been "Chung Free". When he adds
another domain I will just block it as well instead of trying to block each
individual address that he comes up with each day.
