I've been a bit off colour recently, the reason is now becoming
clearer: the mild viral thang that has been doing the rounds causing
coughing and spluttering seems to be carrying a bacterial passenger.
It got down into mother's lungs, she's back on antibiotics and
steroids.
It's got me somewhere, first my gums started playing up, then my
sinuses, then a giant boil exploded out of my groin, followed by more
on my head and neck.
This could possibly explain why I started retaining water without my
BG going much out of whack.
The knock-on effect is that my BG has now started going south, I got
an 8.7 which I wasn't really expecting after an ill-chosen meal (well
mother wanted spaghetti and I thought I'd made little enough that I'd
saty in the sevens at worst, but she couldn't eat all hers and wanted
to me eat it up to save it going to waste; nevertheless I hadn't
expected to spike that high,
So tonight I had sausages and a bunch of brussel sprouts followed by
strawberries.
Again I'd have expected that to put me into the sevens at worst, and
briefly at that.
I decided to run a series of tests.
After half an hour I was at 9.1
1 hour down to 7.9 which was still higher than I expected
1 1/2 hours back to 5
2 hours still at 4.8
The interesting thing is, after much testing earlier I identified the
peak as usually coming around 1 hour, I don't know if it's a result of
the infection that I'm spiking so much higher *and* so much earlier
<sigh>

Hi Trink,
Sorry to hear that you have been having such a hard time... It does
sound like the *miseries* have truly set in at your house.
How may strawberries did you have? It does not sound like they did a
bad job on you. That was probably because they were balanced by the
sausages and brussel sprouts.
Good luck on dealing with that infection... It sounds horrible.

Ditto what Will said. It sounds horrid, and I hope you and your mother
are soon well.

There's obviously a lot of it about, you could hardly see the shelves
at the pharmacy, piles of prescriptions awaiting collection all over
the floor too. Makes me feel less alone when everyone's suffering
<evil grin>
BG's behaving itself a bit better now too, that caught me out but I've
read enough here about changes of BG with infections: it looks as if
I'm actually producing *more* insulin but the start is being delayed
after I eat. Now I need to do some more testing, see if it's a long
term change (was it Nicky who had that happen?) or if it's just the
result of the lurgi.

I only have about half a dozen at a time but they seem to work well.
I think the rusk in the sausages is the main offender. They normally
work out OK, locally made with top quality meat and lashings of black
pepper (Cumberland sausuages) I guess I need to pay more attention
when I'm ill
