This post is semily OT, but I know there are several here that also have
"chronic pain"
issues so this might be of some interest of you. I was watching the idiot
tube during
my 23hr sit-fest on my couch, LOL and a commercial came on talking about a
clinical
study going on in the Columbus Ohio area. Well I phoned them up and was
accepted
for the trial, I have an appointment next thursday.
What it's about is (darn brainfart again) some med company based here is
reworking
Oxycodone so that will reduce the abuse of the drug. It's been chemically
altered so
that if it's scored, cut, chopped, liquified or anyway other then being
taken whole WITH
food that the medication will not activate. Thus the reducing need of it
being sold or
abused. The lady told me they had several already in the study that have
neuropathy
from Diabetes.
They give a free physical, each person is in the trial for 1yr from time of
start, meds
are dispensed FREE of charge and given every 2 weeks. You also need medical
documentation that you have "chronic pain" for more then 5yrs. You also
need to bring
in your current pan med prescription bottles so they can rework your dosage.
If anyones interested let me know I'll send you the phone number to call.
But thought
it would be of interest for a few of you to know that someone is working on
a way so
that those of us in need of heavy pain meds won't be hassled by our doctors
not wanting
to prescribe them.

Wow, what a great thing that would be! Being made to feel like a
melingerer or wondering if they're writing "drug seeking behavior" on
the permanent chart is so demoralizing. Some days I just want to
scream "I hurt dammit -- do you think I would go through this
humiliation if I didn't?" Luckily enough, I now have providers who
BELIEVE me -- wow....there really is pathology to prove my pain. Pity
I had to practically weep upon being touched to get the point across.

Isn't that just the truth, Laura! My doctor admitted to me that that was
his first impression when I went to see him. It took him quite a while to
become convinced I really did hurt that much. Yeah, I couldn't stand for
the covers to touch my feet; I'd lay there in bed and just cry because they
hurt so much. After he put me on neurontin, wow! I could walk again. That
was just before Christmas, and I was able to go Christmas shopping in the
mall for the first time in a long while. I had always been so careful not
to take any more, and any way than it was prescribed for me. Because of so
many meds, and being forgetful, I kept a spreadsheet of my usage. I had no
idea that some of the things I was doing were "drug seeking behavior"! I
thought I was just doing good at being compliant. :-/

I have a hint for all of us with sensitive feet & legs. In an effert to copy
the blanket frames that are used in hospitals I bought the largest laundry
basket, the one with the hip indentation. I marked the indented side panel
and a friend cut that panel out with his power saw for me. I now have the
best $5 blanket tenter in California!! I wear socks because the air seems
cooler in there but I have such freedon to move & stretch and roll over it's
incredible!!!!!!!!!!! And my cats love to get into "the cave" in the
daytime. <G>

Hi, Nancy.
This was five, six years ago for me. I do not have any sensitivity now; I
have almost no feeling at all, except for the pain in my swollen feet/ankles
with cellulitis. Are your legs still this painful?
I know what you mean about the cats loving your blanket tender. *s* My
four love getting under things like that, especially my wooden bed desk or
whatever it may be called. Today, I do not have the *luxury* of sleeping in
my bed. It is upstairs, and I am unable to go upstairs.

Hmmmm, that would mean I could get to come to Ohio then????? *s* How I
would wish on both accounts.
It is nice to know someone is doing something. I am so tired of the *first
impression* I present to a new doctor. Even my own pcp, I think, sometimes
doubts if I really need what he gives me. The endo and neuro, though have
put everything our there with test results showing I do, indeed, have reason
to hurt. Look how many years I have sat here with those kidney stones just
growing and growing. That low back pain is gone since the stones are now
gone. I've got an appointment with my pain specialist in a couple of weeks,
and I will be glad of that.
Thanks. You know where I am coming from. *s*
