what does it do?

I'm a type 2 and I take Metformin also and they cut the dose of
Glyburide in half when I started taking the Metformin but I was
wondering if Glyburide makes my body make more insulin which I have too
much of already? My primary Dr. has already shown he isn't very up on
these things so I'm a little worried if he's read up on the meds. He
didn't prescribe the metformin. The endocrinologist did so there are two
doctors in the mix and with the VA sometimes messages get crossed or
lost.  Ones in a big hospital and the other is in a little clinic hours
away and they don't call each other. They're supposed to read the
reports. :-/

Just a little concerned since I don't really know what the glyburide
does. Can someone explain that to me?

Glyburide is a beta stimulator.  It causes your pancreas to produce more
insulin thoughout the day.  If you have questions about meds a good place to
look them up is www.rxlist.com .  Gives you readable information on what's
what with meds.  I would follow heed of the endocrinologist.  Diabetes is
one of their specialties so he should be up to date on treatments.

thanks Colleen. Seems like my meds are working at cross purposes then.

No.  It is common to prescribe the two meds together.  Metformin helps lower
insulin resistance.  Even though you have plenty of insulin floating around
your body doesn't use it properly.  The Metformin helps to regulate that.
The Glyburide increases insulin production so you can metabolize the foods
better.  They may be able to drob the Glyburide as you gain more stable
BG's.  I use Prandin now.  It's a short acting beta stimulater that you take
right before meals.  If I'm having little or no carb then I don't take it.
It helps me to balance out my meals.

I went to that website and looked it up (the Micronase one) and it
states that it is a insulin lowering medication.  So I will still take
it I guess until I can talk to a doctor and find out what the hecks
going on. All I know is my numbers aren't lowering and I've no money to
buy the right kinds of foods until I get my financial problems
straightened out.  I'm cutting back as best I can and eating low carb as
best I can but protein is expensive.  enough of my whining.  I'll get
there.  It just takes a bit more time.

thanks
