Hello friends,

As I was browsing around this morning, I came across this study
published in the July, 2006, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and
Metabolism. Seems like more good reason for all you guys out there to
get that weight and BG under control.

Conclusions: Obesity, elevated fasting plasma glucose, and diabetes
are risk factors for benign prostatic hyperplasia.

If you do a Medline search for "hyperinsulinemia AND prostate cancer"
you get a bazillion hits.

I just did such a search, Susan, and came up with the not surprising
info that there is a strong correlation between hperinsulinemia,
excess IGF-1, and cancer, generally....

Here is one link to a research project in which that conclusion is
clearly supported. This writeup appears in the August, 2005, issue of
Gastroenterology, published by the American Gastroenterological
Association. The study concluded that "levels of IGF-1 (insulin-like
growth factor), ratio of IGF-1/IGFBP-3 (Insulin-like growth factor
binding protein), and insulin are asssociated with adenomas and even
more so with advanced adenomas."

Bad news for T-2s, men and women, I submit, and all the more reason to
control our diabetes.

I think the take home message goes further, to more reason to control
our diabetes with as little need for insulin as possible, while eating
adequately.
