How soon can I expect to see some effect from Metformin (500mg 2x/day)?  My
AM BG runs from 135~170, and 2 hours after a meal my BG is pretty much back
where it started.

Thanks

JR, I was Diagnosed type 2 on 9/22/03 and didnt see a significant decrease
in my BG levels for 3 weeks.  I was above 300 when I started, a week later I
was in the mid 200's and at the end of the following week I was in the mid
100's.  I was titrated on Metformin starting at 500mg 2x/day, then a week
later to 500mg in the morning and 1000mg and night and then week 3 was
1000mg  2x/day.

Right now my BG is averaging between 85-100.

It takes some time.  I am also assuming you are modifying your diet and
excersizing, because that really is the key to dealing with this.

If your bg is averaging between 85-100,

A: Why do you think you need to be a guinea pig for HCA?
B: What kind of of doc gives a patient with your average bgs, the go
ahead to become a guinea pig for HCA?
C: Is your doc an MD from a reputable medical school? Or is he some
kind of naturapath, guru, or witch doctor?
D: What kind of average bgs are you looking for? Dead man bgs?

I think we have too many Jims. I apologize profusely for posting this
to you. I do have an excuse though, I was extremely distraught when I
wrote it. So Sorry!

It can take 2-3 weeks to kick in, but keep in mind that the most effective
dose for most people is 1500 mg per day.  So you may not see any effect at
all on the dose you are on.  If you see no results after a month, call your
Dr.  Also, are you on a special eating plan?  You can't expect to eat as you
had been and think a pill will help.
