I just went through an ordeal.  Am not sure what caused it
but it was serious.

In my research I found raw foods can be dangerous.

It can contain parasites like nematodes.  You do not
want a major infection of these critters.

All vegetables or other ground based item should be
washed very th roughly.   I do not think I will ever eat
anything that as not been heated.

Many diabetics seem to be more prone to severe cases
of so many types of infection.

Everything is dangerous.  I wash fruits and vegetables as a matter of
course.  I'm more concerned about somebody's nasty strain of e. Coli
coming in on my lettuce than I am about getting pinworms.

Feel better.

I am not referring to pin worms.   There are several more serious
parasite infections  that can become systemic. They can kill
after great misery.  They are becoming much more common
in the US.    One wonderful dermatologist called my problem
eczema and gave me some Aristocort.  He did charge me for
nothing.

It may be that immigration is a factor in more incidence of
new items.  I think the Bill Gates publicity has mentioned
A vaccine for a parasite.

You are very correct about bacterial items.  Ever see
a rest room n the fields?  Even the hillbillies had the
sense to wash their hands before handling garden
products.

In the 1950 I associated with a person that checked
restaurants for hygiene.  The only ting he would order
there was very hot coffee.

I am not too impressed with some docs  in the parasite area.

My doctor told me Monday that when entering  a  restaurant you haven't
been to before,  go and wash your hands. If the water is not hot,
leave.

First time I've heard that, but it makes sense.

Me too.  I spent one day working on a farm, picking cucumbers.  No bathrooms
and no running water.

I have to disagree with you.  I'm transitioning over to a totally raw, vegan
diet.  Raw foods "can" be heated, but the internal temperature must not
reach over 110 F or the live enzymes will be destroyed.  Of course one must
be very careful in preparing these foods, especially sprouts.  Hands must be
clean and all produce must be washed very well.

Julie,
Hook Worms are a type of nematodes. Read a bit.

Remember diabetics are more prone to these
type problems.

There is a way to handle vegetables.

This old fool had to find out the hard way.
Never dreamed I might acquire such a
problem.     Did  not know it was so hard to
diagnose.

For good reason, I wanted to know the
source.    What I found leads me to
state what I did.    Lots of purchased
vegetables are grown in the areas
prone to nematodes and other similar
critters...

Mack   That s too simple.   You are a diabetic and you will
find later in life, that you will go down hill faster than non
diabetic people. I have watch so many diabetics that follow the
accelerated curve.

I see many trying to find way to escape their diabetes.
That can be an asset but be aware of the dangers
of raw foods.

I really do not know the source of my problem.
It could be medical facilities.  Will never know.

But in the hunt for the source I have became more
aware of the situation.  The reason for this posting.

Six years ago I came out of heart surgery with some problems
I feel should not have happened. Others will
say " you are diabetic so what do you expect.".

You are correct about hygiene.  I am almost
silly in this area. Still I acquired a nasty problem
and some docs were puzzled,   They did fail me.

Finally I am about out of trouble.  We are here
to exchange info.

Both of us have received help here.
