I just want to spread the word to people with diabetes. .My son has
been Type 1 since 7 months.  At that time he was diagonosed,  the Docs
told me to look for renal failure  or blindness by this time in his
life, twenty four years later.

Instead, Phil (the son), and seven other Type1 diabetics are Racing
Across America - an Ultra Marathon 8 day - 24 hour cycling race.
http://raceacrossamerica.org to show that diabetics can live a cool
life.  They will go from San Diego to Atlantic City cycling non stop.

The team website is http://teamtype1.org

They are the diabetic answer to Lance Armstrong.

If you know any parents of diabetic kids - pass it on - I was a worried
sick mom 24 years ago - now I am a proud (sort of)  old one Hey, Janet

We will have a blog going.

Thanks, Joanna.

Let me congratulate you, and give you wishes for success for your son
and for all to whom he gives hope...

Please keep us informed about the blog.  I'm an adult T1, and I have
such a place in my heart for T1 kids and their parents.  I would love to
read your information...

Dear Joanna:
Hi! I met the OTHER RAAM group that's raising money and awareness
for type 1 diabetes on the Rose Canyon bike path a few weeks back.  If
your son and his relay teammates need some local workout rides, see
what George Vargas has cooked up over at www.epictrain.com .

Thanks, I will  let them know.  Is the other team all diabetic?  Maybe
they can hook up?

Hi JCSoutherland!
No, only the husband in the other team (two person relay) has
diabetes, that I know of. Type 1, long-term. He's got a pretty high
cadance. Some of San Diego's cycling clubs with group rides can be
found at www.efgh.com click on the bike link. Warning: Those Swami's
guys HAMMER. The (vague) rumor is some of them got speeding tickets out
in Encinitas or Vista....
