Had more to say but got cut off by he doctor calling back. (He wanted me to
know that an A1C of 5.7 was a mean blood glucose of 105 (tee hee)).

This has been an "anniversaries" month for me. In the past month I've turned
60, celebrated 30 years of sobriety (for you friends of Bill Wilson), and 1
year of living with diabetes.

Anyway, I was most anxious to add what a huge help this group has been. With
no insurance or job, and little leeway in choice of physicians, meds, etc.,
I have benefitted a great deal from all of the advice and shared experience
I read here daily. Thanks! to all of you who post thoughtful knowledge and
support. I honestly can't imagine having to rely solely on what a doctor
would (or could) tell me, even if they were willing to take the time.

And, as an unintended consequence of getting the syrup out of my brain
cells, I have discovered a new career in the past year and am having my
first art show next weekend--kinetic sculpture.

So, thanks again to a.s.d.-ers, and back to the lurkers' bench for me.

WONDERFUL for you, Gary!  I have that *thankfulness* for this group, too.  I *do* have a good
med team, but being here one is able to go just a little deeper into the everyday life of a
diabetic.  My doctors have even been thankful for the things I have shared with them from here,
especially back in the early days when I was testing all food, and had a nice drop in my A1C.
Dr. Endo's comment was "Stay with them!"  Glad you came out of Lurkdom.  *vbg*

Welcome, too, to the 60's!  It's a pretty nice place to be.  *s*

Gary,

I am awed by your story. You are an inspiration.

We hope to be traveling in Wisconsin this summer. Can you email me about
where your exhibit will be? We'll be visiting Madison and the Dells area.

Congrats on the 30 years.  I marked 21 this spring.  There's a bunch of
us on here.  Somewhere sometime someone told me that they're tracing
connections between alcoholism and diabetes (also migraine and
depression).  I hit 100% on those diagnoses, but they're all treated,
and life is very good.
