I'm sick of this garbage

Several years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes, type 2.  About 18
months ago I was hospitalized for a laundry list of things, mostly
stuff that could have been avoided (probably) if I'd had a more
"robust" lifestyle.  That was when I quit smoking.

A few months after that I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease,
and had 3 stents placed.  Pretty scary sh.t for a 52 year old woman.

One of the first things I did when I quit the stink sticks was look
for a newsgroup for support.  I found a wonderful group of quitters at
- I was going to put the name of the group here, but don't want to
give even the slightest hint to anyone that they should post there,
too.

Not long after my CAD dx I posted something on the stop smoking group
asking about a cardiac newsgroup and any suggestions.  The only
suggestion I got was from a fellow diabetic and heart patient who
*strongly* advised that I stay away from the cardiac group because it
had been "taken over" by a whacko religious nut cardiologist who
offered dubious advice to people posting there, and had successfully
chased away the "regular people."

Now I find that ASD is flooded not only with the garbage spewed by the
religious nut, but now we also have floods from the pissed off people
from all the groups the whacko cross-posts to.

This just ***really*** pisses me off.  I, nor should anyone else, have
to be bothered with trying to KF someone who makes it impossible to
filter them out.

I picture this whaco sitting at his desk, in front of his computer,
eyes glowing red like the aliens on Star Gate as he types like the
madman he is.

To the whacko:  before you brand me as having numbers on my forehead,
know that I have beliefs that are just as strong as yours.  To whom do
I offer my prayers:  none of your business. This is a diabetic group,
not a religious one.

Uh, Bessiebee, I have him killfiled very successfully.  It is actually
rather easy -- not impossible at all.

The problem is that he keeps coming back with yet another address.  It's to
the point where I don't even bother to KF him because by the time I do he'll
have a new address.  The problem I have is the cross posting idiots.  KFing
them has become a carreer!

Some newsreaders will let you KF messages that have ___ number
of groups listed.  Some will let you KF if they have specific
groups listed.  Thunderbird does neither.  However, I find
the following satisfactory:

If any of the following are true:
    From    contains heartmdphd.com
    Subject contains Chung
    From    contains (worst anti-Chung crossposter)
    From    contains (worst pro-Chung crossposter)
    From    contains (second worst ....)
      ... etc. ...
  Then: IGNORE THREAD

Occasionally I have to add a new name to the list.  But
the above takes care of almost all of it.

Ah, but this part:

> :: Then IGNORE THREAD

is what makes it easy.  You see, once you get one or two of them
on the list, one post by one of them makes everyone else
in the whole thread vanish.

Once in a while, one of your main triggers goes on the wagon,
and you add the next worst to the list.

Another variation of the technique: If you stumble into one of these
crossposted wars, read it UNTIL you find a post by a name you don't
recognize.  Add that person to the list, and you have killed another
twenty threads without killfiling anyone you know from this list.

I'm seeing very little of this, as I can killfile by crossposts. For
instance, I can kf everything crossposted to sci.med.cardiology or
anything posted to 3 or more groups.

Ah!  I guess my KF for crossposts is doing double duty.  I just kill
anything with a comma in the newsgroups line, and everything becomes a
lot more peaceful.

I've got Chung KF'd (as well as some of the more rabid members of the
Opposition Party).  Unfortunately the ages-old problem of people who
don't snip means I often get all of Chung's poison and that of his
more vocal detractors as part of someone else's response to Chung or
others.

Ah well, that's what the delete key is for, right?

This shows my naive pink underbelly from newsgroup inexperience:

I'm surprised you can't get rid of him. He should get TOS'd if there
are mmultiple complaints.  Then when he switches ISPs and news
providers, report him to the new services.

Why is this impossible?

You can do that.  But he's like the Energizer bunny!  Keeps getting new
ISP's and new throwaway accounts.  He has gotten about a dozen or so in one
day using a variety of names.

ISPs mostly take abuse complaints and park them in a circular file.
Rarely acted on.  A waste of time.  Just set your KF to kill the

Ah, another Dire Portent from Andrew, which the day after will
be defended, as usual, with "Well, I didn't say it WOULD
happen, and it still COULD happen".  Which of course raises
the question of why he keeps littering the group with
things that COULD happen, but never DO happen.

I'm giving 1000-to-1 oddes that there will not be a nuclear
holocaust tomorrow.

On the other hand, I will point out that the United States may
well be under siege by week's end by thousands of alien
spacecraft, all disgorging horrid nauseating alien soldiers
who look remarkably like Leonardo de Caprio.  I'm not
saying it WILL happen, mind you, but it COULD happen.

And if not this weekend, then ...well, someday.

Can I vote for the aliens?  They'd be much cooler than a nuclear holocaust.

Yeah, but remember: they all look like Leonardo de Caprio.

Quote from an essay by Penn ( of Penn & Teller) on going to
see "Titanic" with his mother:

Near the end of the movie, the two 12-year-olds (my Mom's POV

and ever and ever while freezing in the cold water. (Am I

Actually no, you don't.  You don't love me, because you
don't have the slightest idea of who I am or what I am
like.  You know nothing about me, and you cannot love
something you do not know -- except in the most
abstract and impersonal way, similar to the way
that liberals are often accused of loving the
poor, as long as they don't actually have to be
around any of the poor.

But you clearly love the smug feeling of virtue
that saying this gives you, a little passive-aggressive
move which allows you to assume the role of the wounded
innocent, the long-suffering martyr, virtuous, forebearing,
wonderfully patient in the face of endless insults, a Christian
Bhodisatva, a Usenet Beckett.  In brief, this gives
you great pride in your wonderous humility.

But if I am wrong, and it is in fact me that you
love, please, do tell me about this person you love.
What makes him happy?  What good does he do in this
world?  What are his fears?  How's his health?
Are the pronouns "he" and "his" even the correct
ones for this person you know so well that you
can say you love "him"?

So, do I get twenty questions here, or what?  Lessee what we
got so far:

-- you are "still praying for" me, and:

??  what "guidance" are you asking for when
you are "still praying for" me??

Yes.  Twisting words and meanings is the only way your dead religion
seems to operate.

Well, I know a lot of Christians, good Christians, and to the best
of my knowledge, they're pretty much one hundred percent against
the idea of nuclear conflagration.

In fact, when I was young, more than a few of them were building
fallout shelters.

Being opposed to something is not the same thing as considering it
"dire."  The "end of the world" for Christians is a time when the LORD
returns to judge and make everything right.  If GOD's plan is to end the
world with a nuclear conflagration then... Amen!

You will not find one Christian who would be against GOD's will and plan
even though we will be sad that we were not given more time to be used
by HIM to bring more people to accept Christ's offer of salvation
through faith in HIM.

Except you. According to the BIBLE, if your message is rejected, you're

The message is not mine but the LORD's.

It is written to leave when noone listens.  Your post indicates that you
are "listening" even if you do not like what you are reading.

This is my first post, but from what I've heard this guy is a menace.
I am not that computer literate, but what if we all send on to the
sites he posts for his discussions about glowing and bombarded him with
stupid questions and tied his site up with bull.
Could  we bring him down?  Could we do to him what he does to us.  All
his messages have several sites listed with the time of his
discussionsl.  Some people only understand their own type of
intimidation. If we shut him down  maybe he would leave us alone.  Or
it could just make him feel happy and powerful.  I don't know , but I
know that nothing else has worked.  Turn abouts fair play.  Any
thoughts?  Alan are you there?  Lloo

actually everything up to the last 2 paragraphs should be sent to his

troll has heaped upon multiple newsgroups.  In direct violation of his

It won't help, though.  He'll just find another ISP.  Best is to ignore
him completely.  Then we can all killfile him and let him continue to
post his drivel and no one will have to change their killfile entry.

Actually, "best" would be for him to realize his massive error and for
him to reform, but that's not likely.

Abuse complaints are a waste of time.  Remember the tremendous effort
to get Phildo disconnected from BT?  I bitched so much that BT
complained to my ISP cox about my complaints to BT.

Amen Bessie. I am hoping if we ignore him and not respond he will
quiet down here for a few months and then of course he'll do it all
over again. The big problem, as I see it, is all the idiots that reply
to him and then x-post to ever group he posts to. I am probably adding
five or more to my killfile every single day. I'm afraid I will
inadvertently killfile some regular here when I see them answer him
and I don't realize who they are.

Amen, Amen, Grandpa Chuck and BessieBee.  I haven't been playing in
this group for very long, but I have found it quite helpful in learning
about diabetes.  I too am very frustrated by the mentally ill doctor,
and have been coming here less.  But then I got thinking, if we leave,
then he'll have taken over.  I use Google to access this group & so I
can't KF.  I use my mental filter and ignore things posted by Chung &
his alter egos & his opponents.  I'd really like to see asd continue as
an excellent source of information for everyone.
Deep sigh
