Hello, my name is Scott and I started watching the newsgroup a few weeks
ago. I found out that I can do a search of "Google" which I did to find out
if there was someone using the same nickname I wanted to use.
There was someone using "Buck" but has not been used for a while. Checking
out some of the messages, it appears that he is no longer living due to
diabetes complications and it scared me. Maybe I did not have the right to
even read the messages, but he sounded like a swell person.
Would it be out of taste if I simply used the nickname "Bucky"
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott.
Welcome to the group.
I can't comment on "Bucky" as I wasn't around then; there is a "Buck"
on the group at the moment. I suspect he'll only object if you post
something outrageous and people think it's from him.
Unfortunately, it's a fact of life, and death, that some previous
posters are no longer here.
Hopefully, that scared you enough to do something about your disease.
If so, you've come to the right place.
Let us know a little more about yourself - Type 1 or 2, what stage you
are at and so on, and you'll get plenty of advice to help.
Why not just use Scott? I can't remember reading any other "Scotts"
lately.

I just read over all of the posts regarding "Buck" and there were a few,
regarding his death and his life.
From what I can see, his was quite a man. Me thinks it would be a great
diservice to his memory in this group if I used his name.
Just reading his posts, and yours to him and about him and helped me in this
fight against this disease.
Thank you Buck, and this group!

Hi there Scott,
I certainly remember Buck. He was indeed a fine man, one who really
deserved the old-fashioned title of "gentleman".

He did many services in helping this group. A modest and retiring
person, who sought no recognition or thanks, just did what he could
to help. Men like that are rare indeed. It kind of warms me to
think that he is still being recognised and appreciated. Thanks
Scott.

Well, right now I am just observing. I tend to do that. Seeking out the
wisdom of others.
I am a type 1, diagnosed many (won't say how many) years ago and am
considering a medtronic pump which my doctor says is about time.
My wife and I are caring for her in laws. He has type 1 also, but seems to
be suffering more from its effects right now. Both were recently diagnosed
with alzheimers as well. So we kind of have a full plate right now.
Live in Atlanta, TX, near Texarkana and love it here. Involved up to my
gills in the youth group at church and loving that too.
Hope that was not too much, but thanks for asking.

scottie,
i recommend you go to http://www.insulin-pumpers.org
signup for their mailing list.. ask questions there. tons of
EXCELLENT info.. if you want support for a t1 thats
the place to go.. very little here i've found unfortunately.
many questions never answered here, were only moments
away from the folks there on that list. seems what I thought
was oddball reasons of my own conclusions were actually
very normal and many experience the same.
good luck.. i pump

If I were Buck's wife or son, I would have greatly appreciated reading
that. Buck's family checked in here shortly after his death to let us
know how they were doing. They are just as nice and decent as he was.

You can use any nickname you want,
as it is your Email address by which they identify one.
If posting from a NG, rather than online, even that can be changed.
You could also use Buck1, 1Buck, Buck2, Buck Too, you get the idea.

as far as posting nicks go, no-one has monopoly on any given name.
That being said it does get confusing if we have more than one Charles
posting to the same group. So people will be Chuck or Charles C. and
Charles D. etc.
Also, the fact that Buck did not prevent his posts from being archived
on google makes it okay to read those archived posts. Buck knew about
the archiving and how to prevent it. Also knowing Buck as I do, I do
not think he would object to you using Bucky or Buck. Now if you were
to use the same email address as the original Buck the it would be a
very tacky case of identity theft that people would take offense to.
You see the name Buck is not the real identifier, it is the posting
address.
So if Buck is your preferred nick,
welcome Buck.
