The following information is given with the utmost respect
for the armed forces and civilians who have died in the
current war in Iraq. According to http://icasualties.org/oif/
The number of Americans killed in Iraq as of April 02, 2006 is 2,343.
Americans wounded = more than 16,774
United Kingdom = 103
Other = 105
Iraqi deaths are probably in excess of 100,000.

Today, April 5, 2006
It has been 1069 days since Bush declared,
"Mission Accomplished in Iraq."
And some people still believe what he says.

Which is rape oil

That is the edible oil extracted from rapeseed, also used as a
lubricant and in the manufacture of various products.

rape-seed             (rapsed)n. The seed of the rape plant.

And that brings us to:

rape3             (rap)n. The refuse of grapes left after the
extraction of the juice in winemaking.

In other words it is the oil from grape seeds.

Canola stands for "Canadian Oil Low Acid", a marketing move to
differentiate a newer variety of rapeseed plant cross-bred naturally
(non-G.M.O.) in Canada in the 1970's that contains less than 1 per cent
of the nasty eurcic acid found in traditional rapeseed varieties at up
to 60 per cent. It is a healthier oil compared to other oils. Most of
the USA canola oil is now produced in North Dakota. Wikipedia has an
excellent article on it's history and nutrient value at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canola_oil

I was surprised at the sheer number of nut cases that are posting
diatribes against canola oil as if it were aspartame. The same
ignorance, the same lies, and the same big business / big government
conspiracy theories. The Urban Legends page has more nutrition info:

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/canola.asp

Grape Seed Extract is another plant antioxidant that some people claim
can cure most conditions known to mankind, which usually means that it
is probably worthless. RxList, like DrugDigest and WebMD, have added
sections on herbals and supplements, and does not endorse any of them.

No, Canola is rapeseed oil, not grapeseed oil.

Grape seed extract is something else.

According to my dictionary and many reports I have heard through the
years rapeseed oil is from rapeseeds which are the seeds of grapes
used in winemaking. Thus, grape seed oil. They changed the name in
Canada to Canola Oil, according to reports I have heard because they
didn't think it would sell very well if they called it as rapeseed oil
or grape seed oil - either one.

OTOH, who cares?

Chuck, see the my post earlier in the thread, but sometimes I wonder how
these things get so twisted around!

Okay.  I heard a news story years ago where they said it was made from
the seed left from grapes after they made wine. Then I went to my
dictionary program and it led me in a circle that ended with the same
information about rape seed.

Hey! That makes it twice I was wrong about something today. Must be a
new record.

Nope - you're thinking of rape-seed oil; re-named by the
Canadians when they made it more user-friendly (like,
edible) and decided that the name had some unfortunate
connotations.

Grape seed oil is produced from (wait for it)...
grape seeds.

No.  You can buy grapeseed oil and grapeseed extract.  Neither one is
Canola.  Canola is derived from the mustard family.

Grapeseed Extract is a nutrient belonging to the bioflavonoid family whose
main functions are antioxidant activity, the stabilization of collagen and
the maintenance of elastin, two critical proteins in connective tissue,
blood vessels and muscle.

Grapeseed Oil is good for cooking at high heat.

I just love the education I get here. I always preached to my kids
that a day you don't learn at least one thing is a wasted day. I still
believe that, in fact now more than ever.

IIRC it has resveratrols, one of the many useful ingredients
in red wine.

I prefer Shiraz, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.

otherwise, I have no idea.
