Diet Mountain Dew

Hi, folks. I hope you'll pardon my "intrusion" on this group. I have
several diabetic friends and family members, a few of whom enjoy Diet
Mountain Dew as a substitute to sugared soft drinks. Recently I started
an online petition and a website for Diet Mountain Dew drinkers, which
I will explain in a moment, but it came as no surprise to find that a
large percentage of signers of the petition and many visitors to my
website who've emailed me are also diabetics looking for an alternative
to regular soda.

As for the reason for starting the petition and website, PepsiCo
recently changed the formula of Diet Mountain Dew to include Splenda.
The old formula is no longer being produced, at least for American
store shelves. Packages of the new Diet Dew are marked "Tuned Up
Taste".

I am not diabetic, but I've been drinking Diet Mountain Dew for nearly
20 years, and hate the flavor of the new stuff. I'm not alone. I
pointed http://www.fightforflavor.com to my blog, started an online
petition and already have over 1,400 signatures in favor of bringing
back the old formula (more than likely as a new product that shares
shelf space with the new Diet Dew).

Some of you will say "well Diet Mountain Dew already tasted like
pisswater to me". Out of the dozen or so people I know personally that
have tried the new Diet Dew, not a single one preferred the taste of
the new Diet Dew over the old Diet Dew. Common complaints are that it
is too sweet and has a bad aftertaste.

So if you don't care for the flavor of the new Diet Dew or if you are
simply not a fan of Splenda in general, stop by fightforflavor.com, get
more info, and sign the petition.

Thanks for your time, everyone!

I admit to being a Diet Mountain Dew addict.  I was actually drinking
some as I read your post.  It didn't taste any different to me, so I
checked the bottle.  Mine does say "Tuned Up Taste" on it, but it has
aspartame, not splenda.  So check the ingredients; the slogan alone
won 't distinguish them for you.

(I like splenda in general, and I even like some soft drinks with it,
like Waist Watchers.  But I hope the splenda-ized version of Diet Dew
isn't like the splenda-ized version of Diet Coke, which I don't like
at all.  Although maybe it will be for the best, and help me dump this
addiction once and for all :-)

My mistake -- this bottle does have splenda in it after all.  When I
saw aspartame in the ingredient list, followed by some other stuff, I
stopped reading -- butI checked again, and later in the list are ace-K
and sucralose, so I guess this is the new formulation.  Well, I didn't
even notice a difference, so I guess it doesn't matter to me :-)

Mountain Dew has so much caffeine, I dont know how anyone drinks it.  I
love splenda.

Loretta for a lot of people Mountain Dew is what coffee is to we
coffee addicts. Personally, I don't much care for Mountain Dew. The
color alone in enough to put me off. Know what I mean? ;-)

LOL

We have a long-time friend who is a registered nurse and she
absolutely refuses to even taste Mountain Dew or Mellow Yellow for
that very reason. I tried to tell her how Indira Gandhi drank a glass
of her own urine every day in the belief that it was good for her
health.

I had a neighbor who went nuts on sugared Mountain Dew and gained a hundred
pounds.

I'm tempted to try this Diet Dew and see why Dew drinkers are so passionate.

Hmmm...  I haven't seen any of that here.  I think what we have is the same
as we've always had.  I drink it on occasion.  It's not a favorite though.
My daughter does love it.  But then she also loves those new Cokes that I
think taste terrible.  Like the Coke with Splenda.  Hopefully if enough
people complain it will go like the New Coke did.

I'm with you Julie. Laurie and I  have tried a few of the diet soft
drinks made with Splenda and to us it has a terrible taste and
after-taste. I think it behooves those of us who don't like it to
email and phone the makers of our favorites that we want the old
formula soft drinks back. We need to tell both the local distributors
and the national offices.

I used to be a die-hard Tab drinker.  Then they put calcium in it.  Made it
taste horrible.  That lasted all of about two weeks.  They got so many
complaints they immediately changed the formula.  But they also lost some
fans who refused to drink it again because the stuff with calcium was so
horrible!  They changed the formula once again while I was pregnant.  Put a
mix of Aspartame and Saccharine in it.  That took away that bitter
aftertaste I so loved.  Now I just drink Diet Coke.  It's cheaper than Tab.
They never put Tab on sale these days.

The "new" Diet Dew Tastes just fine to me.
I wish they would re-introduce the "Lightning" variety (Orange) and
offer it in diet as well. The Diet Code Red (Cherry) is ok too, just
not my favorite. The "Black" (grape) simple SUCKS. ;-)

Anyone remember the OLD ad slogan/catch phrase:
"Ya-hoo, Mountain Dew!"
Back when they used a hillbilly and a shack (outhouse?!?) on the
label?

Didn't you ever notice how much Mountain Dew in a glass resembles a
urine sample?

Not nearly as much as beer does.

Since beer comes in so many different colors that is not a good
comparison.

OTOH, an hour after I take my B-50 vitamins mine is a lot darker than
when it's nearly clear during the day when I've been drinking the
recommended amount of water.

petitions work poorly, not buying what you don't like works best.
Pepsi and Coke have come with many variations over the past few years.
Sales determined what would and would not stay on the shelves, not
petitions.
