Well I finally got the dreaded bug that going around. My BG's are running
110's & 120's(after eating). I tried one of the OTC cold & flu
remedies(tussin) for diabetics and I'm *not* impressed.  I would really like
to use Nyquil as it has always worked great in relieving my aches & pains. I
guess I should just be happy my numbers aren't higher and tuff it out. I've
made it this far I guess I can make it the rest of the way.  lol

Out of curiosity, as anyone tried Nyquil? and how did your BG's react?

What is wrong with that?  That should be normal, right?  I read a lot of
posts and I get the idea that some people use 60-90 as a normal range (or
something).  FBG on my tests claim 70-100 so 90-120 after eating should be
expected, right?

It is just that it is sugar/carb free?  Is that the difference/benefit?  (I
haven't gotten a cold yet so I am just getting info for the inevitable..)

Listen here Joe, you drink too much of the Big Q and your teeth will turn
green!
I would think that anything with alcohol in it might lower your numbers.
Alcohol is something I have not experimented with yet.  Please let the group
know if you use the big Q and what it did for/to you.  (I really don't care
about the color of your teeth).

I wanted to try it but was affraid my BG's would shoot thru the roof. I was
127mg/dl this morning after being up almost every hour. I can only imagine
what my BG's would be if I took NyQuil. I don't have a problem with alcohol
make me Hypo, it just causes me to sleep a lot.
[NyQuil original] - alcohol, citric acid, D&C Yellow No. 10, FD&C Green No.
3, FD&C Yellow No. 6, flavor, high fructose corn syrup, polyethylene glycol,
propylene glycol, purified water, saccharin sodium, sodium citrate

I can tell you that the Diabetic Tussin DM doesn't help much. (YMMV). Oh
yea, if you thought NyQuil tasted bad try the Tussin. Wow! lol

If you don't have problems with alcohol making you hypo, maybe a shot
of whiskey is in order.  After all, we only drink for medicinal
purposes, right?  ;-)

Seriously, don't do anything that will hurt you, but alcohol is
probably the biggest component in Nyquil.

The reason we're not supposed to have regular cold meds is because they can
raise BG, and in diabetics can cause a particular problem of raised pressure
in the eye.  I don't like Nyquil.  Makes me feel very drugged.  And I don't
like that feeling.  I generally don't take cold meds.  But I did take a few
decongestants with my last sinus infection because the pain was killing me.

Yea, I was affraid my BG would shoot thru the roof if I took the NyQuil so I
didn't. I know what you mean about feeling drugged too.
When I would take it, I just slept a lot and to me that was a good thing. So
I guess this is the first illness I've been awake for :-(
