Hi im new to this group and not sure how to use it.  My question is I
have been diagnosed with a fatty liver my alt enzymes are elevated.
about the time my emzymes went up I wave been having some wierd
symptoms.  I get an upset stomach with an unlimited supple of gas I
mean I can burp and burp and burp nonstop.  Ive treid to take gas X and
maylox and my doctor put me on prevacis she said it was indigestion but
nothing helps.  Does any one else have these symptoms?  Ive had an
ultrasound and no gall stones were found.  They also did a ct scan to
diagnose me with a fatty liver.  Now they want me to do a biopsy, but
from what I understand from my Dr there reall is nothing they can do
for a fatty liver.  If anyone has any comments or help I would
appreciate it. thanks Mike

If all tests come up negative you may have irritable bowel
syndrome. There is a newsgroup for that, I think it is
called alt.support.ibs

Hello,

I am no liver expert, but I have known some people with this problem.
It seems that there can be a host of different causes of fatty liver.
In some, it turned out to be due to a medication. In others, it may
have been caused by an infection, like hepatitis. In others, it may be
related to lifestyle issues, such as alcohol consumption. And of
course, for some, there is no specific cause identified. ....

I would urge that you seek out a liver specialist, if you can, and try
to identify what may have caused your condition. In some instances, I
have heard of people with fatty liver conditions returning to normal.

There is plenty you can do for a fatty liver if it is associated with
Type 2 diabetes and you don't have some other condition like hepatitis.
Have the tests done to rule out hep.

Very high blood sugars can exacerbate this condition, as do the high
triglycerides that are caused by eating a lot of carbohydrates.

Cutting way back on carbohydrates has been found to help reverse fatty
liver. So does the drug Metformin which has a similar effect to lowering
carbohydrates, especially if you combine it with a much lower carb diet.

Search the web for "metformin and fatty liver" and you'll find the
medical study showing the improvement. Just remember that cutting carbs
significant without the drug often gives stronger results than the drug.

Someone I know was diagnosed with fatty liver and severely elevated
liver enzymes several years ago.   Her internist rx'ed alpha lipoic acid
, silymarin (milk thistle) and N-acetylcysteine for it.  My friend's
stomach didn't handle the latter, but she took the first two.  Her
results were normal within a month.

Worth looking up on Medline and sharing with the doc.

For the newbies who wonder why the predictable virulent
response occurs when slime like these bottom-feeders appear
here trying to get rich off people with an illness - this is
pure spam as well as being a total waste of money.

They prey on usenet groups

Mike, get the ct scan.  I had a liver biopsy last year, and they were able to make a definite
diagnosis for me.  It was done in conjunction with a ct.  My liver enzymes were astronomical.
My doctor described it when it said, "....... completely shot out her liver."  Medications were
changed, I watched my fat intake, and in x? months the enzymes were back close to normal, with
at least one of them actually in the normal range on last lab work.  Google for fatty liver and
check out all the information.

Good luck, and be sure and report back here with all that goes on.
