At most, this treatment would only apply within the "honeymoon" period
right after the initial onset of Type 1 diabetes. Even if some beta
cells could be saved at that point, the pancreas still would not be
"normal," which is the defintion of "cure." The study seems to be
about saving existing cells by stopping the autoimmune process, not
about regenerating new ones.
