2006 Garlic and Red Shallots Advance Orders

galwaynygarlic@aol.com - 23 Mar 2006 19:21 GMT
Hi, we are accepting advance orders for our 2006 Garlic and Red Shallot
harvest.  My family has both soft and hardneck garlic available.  Good
strains that we have been experimenting with in our garden now for a
few years.

Garlic and Red Shallots cost 7.00 a pound plus shipping. One pound of
Garlic or Red Shallots shipped USPS Priority Mail plus Delivery
Confirmation is about 5.00, or a little more, depending on your zip
code. No beefed up handling charges.  Once again, shipping is cost
only.

Our Garlic and Red Shallots are free of any chemical additives.  No
chlorine water either, the garden is watered by the rain and our  well.

Elsewhere, you'll easily pay 16.00 or more a pound for Certified
Organic Garlic.  We don't want the paperwork hassle nor the extra
expense of becoming "Certified Organic".

We respond via email with payment address to people interested in
buying our produce.  Checks that hit our Galway, New York post office
box and PAYPAL customers receive an email confirmation that we have
your order.

Harvesting is at the end of August, and shipment is early to mid
September.  Notification, including your USPS Delivery Confirmation
tracking number, is sent when we ship your order. Payment envelopes
received after we sell out are refused and returned to sender.
Basically, the early bird gets the worm.  Thanks for your interest.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the group charter.

The usenet charter for asd does not allow for commercial posts.

Violations of a group charter can result in bad things happening to the
poster and at times to the group itself if abuse is allowed to continue in
violation of the charter. Therefore it is important to point out to you that
you are violating this goup, and if you continue to do so, no doubt, someone
will file a complaint with your provider which will be corrective.

Our charter in case you cannot find it otherwise follows.

You are of course welcome to post messages of support for diabetes topics
and to stay and learn more about his terrible disease. But please do not
make this present mistake again.

regards
rudy

Subject: Charter and Info alt.support.diabetes

This newsgroup is for the emotional support of persons with diabetes
mellitus, their families and loved ones.  Specifically, this group is not
intended to duplicate the information in misc.health.diabetes, and not
intended to dispense medical advice about the disease.  Nor is this group
intended to duplicate the group alt.food.diabetic, which discusses recipes
for those with diabetes.

There are currently 15.7 million persons with diabetes in the USA (according
to the American Diabetes Association) and 140 million persons worldwide with
diabetes (according to the World Health Organization).  The WHO expects the
numbers to more than double to 300 million in the next 25 years.

It is not intended that this group would carry commercial messages, binaries
or HTML.  alt.support.diabetes is not moderated.

This is the Charter.  It is intended that this newsgroup will not have a
separate FAQ, an extensive multi-part Diabetes FAQ exists at
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/diabetes/

[Webmasters Note: The following was added to the Charter in 2000. It was
written by Alan (Wolf) Roark.]

What is ASD?

The main mission of alt.support.diabetes (a.s.d), though not the only one,
is that of the fellowship and support of diabetics, their friends and loved
ones. The group was founded with the belief that moral support is an
extremely important part of living with diabetes, hence, the title of` the
group.

A.S.D is a public forum. There is no membership. All are welcome to post
here. "Lurking" is also accepted, but we encourage any and all that have an
interest in diebetes issues to 'speak up'. Simply introduce yourself and
jump right in.

By charter, we are not here for medical advice. Specific medical questions
will often be asked and responses will generally be given as suggestions or
from personal experiences. Any advice given here should not be considered as
professional, and should only be followed after consulting your medical
team.

We are also here to help educate. By sharing what we have learned, either by
experience or by internet, we hope to help others learn to cope with
diabetes. Alt.Support.Diabetes is a non-profit group. We do NOT advocate or
support any particular product. Any testimonial for a specific product or
company is purely the opinion of the individual poster. We frown highly on
"spam". It is the intention of this group that there should be no commercial
intervention. But because we are an unmoderated forum, there is no way for
us as a group to keep advertisers from posting to the group.

Abuse of the Forum

Since there is no moderator, this forum is uncensored. We believe in the
freedom to say what is on your mind. We do, however, request that the topic
be of concern to diabetics. This is not to say that diabetes is the only
issue discussed here. We talk freely about almost anything. Those post that
do not specifically concern diabetes are labeled as "Off Topic" and should
be designated as such by the preface of "OT".

We ask that posters refrain from obscenities, vulgarities, name-calling, and
any other actions that would be considered out of place in a public place.

"Spam" is extremely unwelcome here, but it will show up. Any claims of
'miracle cures' or easy weight loss plans are quickly investigated and
debunked. Harassment is NOT tolerated in any way! Those that wish to cause
disruption, either in the forum or by e-mail, are asked to move on. Repeat
abusers will be reported to their ISP.

Google says they are unfamiliar with rather basic ethics, since their first
Usenet posting ever was to a number of cooking and health groups.
Too bad, since they're semi local to me, though I grow my own garlic (NOT
commercially, he added hastily).

Hello, Gary Woods,

Who are you, and what are you trying to say?

Please be on topic if possible, and by the way, I enjoy garlic every day.
Also onions, peanut butter, berries, and olives, usually cheese and some
times nuts. Try to eat some oily fish every week or more often if possible.
And I do a bit of walking whenever I can.

So, who are you? And what are you trying to say to me?

rudy

Gary simply said, that by doing a simple google search on the OP
spammer you will find that the offender has no sense of ethical
behavior since their spam is all they have posted on usenet.

Hi Rudy

Gary's been around a while longer than most here. The
problem is that everything you said was absolutely correct -
and will be totally ignored by the spammer, on the remote
chance he/she ever reads it, because they couldn't care
less.

I do it too occasionally. I post something like that because
it made me feel better - but there's not a snowball's chance
in hell that it will have any effect at all.

If you actually want to do something more, chat to mack on
what to do to get the spammer's account suspended for
ignoring the charter.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

I thought I was pretty clear on it, and Mack figured it out....
I was pointing out where the spammer seemed to lie on the
malice---incompetence continuum.

More on-topic: T2, walker, loves to watch low-budget Troma movies on the
Nordic Track, avid gardener and alliophile.  I've been here a while, but I
tend not to post unless I have something to say.

Semi-close-to-topic:  Yes, Rapini is an excuse to consume mass quantities
of garlic and a bit of garlic.  The Caesars are reputed to have liked
theirs like this:

Take a good bunch of Broccoli Raab and chop coarsely, leaves, stems, and
all.  Remove any big hunks of stem that may be too fibrous.  Parboil in
water for a few minutes and drain.  (You can bag and freeze at this point;
it freezes beautifully).  Chop several cloves (bulbs?)* of garlic(1) and
cook in a pan in a few tablespoons of olive oil until it "speaks."  Add the
Rapini and cook for a couple more minutes.  Feed some to your partner as
well.

*the engineering term is "metric shitload."
(1) I like German white hardneck; strong flavor and only 4 big cloves to a
bulb, easy to achieve the proper amount.

If you think this is all over the lot, consider that my friends consider me
a walking digression.  I'm getting some new friends.

Yours in bad breath,

Hello, Gary Woods, Mack, and Alan S,

Just me being a bit thick; thanks for the heads up. I didn't bother to look
the OP up, but just went on wasting everyones time. But thanks again, and
sounds like a good meal to me. I've managed to sneak a recipe into a post
here myself from time to time.

Mack and Alan S are champions of the people in my book, and they say you're
the same; so ,I'm pleased to meet you Gary. Sorry I didn't remember reading
you before. Like I said, I can be thick sometimes.

Best regards,
rudy

Thanks, Mack...

You know, your efforts in  reporting spammers as you do really do help
keep the spam down, for the most part. This group does not seem nearly
so overrun as some....

galwaynygarlic@aol.com - 25 Mar 2006 17:21 GMT
To all in this group.  I didn't intend on creating any problem here.  I
don't appreciate getting spam in my email either.  I really wasn't
thinking that I was spamming, just making an offer to people who might
be interested.  Some have and obviously some aren't.  If I could delete
the message off this group I surely would.  I'm just a small time
operator trying to get my message out and will not use this medium
again.  Sorry, Randy

It's a collective effort.  There many who are taking the info I and
others track down regarding the spammers ISP and posting hosts and
they do file complaints so that multiple complaints from multiple
participants show up.  That is what makes the ISP pay attention more
than anything.

That and the fact that the complaints to the ISPs and posting hosts
are being CCd to UCE@FTC.GOV and spam@ftc.gov etc.

Shoot.  When I saw the subject line I thought this might be an early
agriculture report about how creative LC cooking was boosting trade in
those aromatic ingredients.  Oh, well.
