Before lunch I tested and was 65. I had a headache but assumed it was
because of some med that I take that causes them.
I had some homemade cabbage soup which is v8 juice, water, cabbage,
carrots, veal bones, mushrooms . I make this all the time . It is not
a high caloric food and it has never been anything but kind to me.
With it, I had some chopped liver, dont vomit if you dont like the sound
of it on a one ounce slice of chalah roll.
After I had two strawberries and two grapes.
At two hours I expected to be about 110, but I was surprised to see 145,
I am befuddled by this. The more I think I know the more I know I dont.
Could the headache and the subsequent tylenol with codeine I took, be
the cause of the spike. This is a spike to me because I am always under
120 at two hours unless I have purposely eaten a forbidden food, or too
big a portion, hardly anything is forbidden.
I really am confused. If anyone is interested in the cabbage soup
one bottle of v8 or tomato juice, 32 ounces
32 ounces of water
head of cabbage
carrots
mushrooms
and if you like meat in it some kind of veal bones or beef bones
lemon juice and splenda to taste, I use about a tsp of lemon juice and
three splendas and it becomes sweet and sour
cook covered for about 45 to 60 minutes
under a small to medium flamebring it to a high boil and uncover for
about ten to fifteen minutes so the liquid boils down and it becomes
soupy
If vegetables not soft cook until they are tender with the pot covered
or slightly opened.
I have the soup for over a week.

Hello, Loretta,
What meter is this exactly?
Have you been using this vial of strips with consistant results for a while?
If the meter and strips are accurate, which is probably the case but with a
wide range of acceptability (that is probably greater than you would like,
actually), then one might consider whether or not you might be cominig down
with a cold or that possibly the roll was more of a problem than expected or
that the strawberries and grapes were more ripe than other examples. Small
variances in food can make for apparent significant differences on ones bg
meter readings which may or may not be actual. But this difference is
probably not something that should concern you overmuch. The questions, in
addition to the above, that one might ask have to do with strip storage
between tests.
Probably it isn't a real number.
But I hope you can find an explanation somewhere in this and be content with
it. Probably it wasn't the meal., but some other variable. Do you walk after
meals? Did you you get enough sleep the night before? Were there other day
to day stressors that day?
Any of those things might make as much difference as that and more with some
persons.
The headache might be the cause. What's causing that?
But, it might be nothing at all.
In any case, you shouldn't be too scared about a single reading. It isn't
healthy to worry too much about a single point, much as we would like to
prevent any out of line examples. It happens sometimes, and usually we can
figure it out afterwards. But even when we can't, it is just one moment in a
long life.
Please go on taking good care of yourself.
regards,
rudy

Loretta,
My humble experience with 25 years as Type 1:
65 is low enough to trigger some hypoglycemic symptoms. Maybe
"headache" is one of them for you. Other symptoms are shakiness,
confusion, fuzziness, etc.

If you've got a headache and are taking tylenol and codeine, do you
have a fever/flu/cold/infection? Any of those can play havoc with my
bG. (And I'm not talking 110 vs 145, I'm talking 90 vs 515 for a worst
case.)

Yeah, well, f.ck you too, Ozgirl.
I'm not Sally. I don't even know what your beef with this mythical
Sally is. I've been posting to Usenet for 15 years. Check it out. Then
shut up.

Not sure what your problem is Ozgirl. I've been posting to Usenet for
fifteen years using my real name. No hiding behind pseudonyms for me.
If you've got a problem with what I wrote, say it. Don't invoke
arguments with mythical others.

I want to thank everyone for their opinions. The problem corrected
itself and I was 109 two hours after that. It just was something crazy.
