I've been buying the Choice DM home A1c test at Walgreens, but my local
store no longer has it. I can't even find it on the Walgreens web site.
Drugstore.com says it requires a prescription in New Jersey where
they are located. I could get a prescription, but that seems so
unlikely. The only place I have found it available is Medichest.com, at
a higher price. A search of the Bristol Myers Squibb web site shows
several news releases announcing its launch in 2004 but nothing about it
since.
Does anyone know what has happened?

Only a few left in stock but they seem to be cheaper than most

To me the A1c is history I already know.
To the doc it a good record and is not
fooled the patients lies.
The vendors will stock any item
that can sell.
It takes patients time and money that
could be better used for definitive regular
testing,

I see your point, but I have a different view. I see the quarterly A1c
as a check on whether I am slipping up somewhere and don't realize it,
particularly as instead of testing after every meal the way I used to I
now test twice most days.
My insurance would pay for me to have a lab A1c quarterly, but that
takes time and often they have trouble getting blood from me. The home
test is so much easier. I was going to suggest to my doctor with this
upcoming visit that I would see her once a year instead of twice, but I
would do the home A1c test in between.
My husband's doctor refuses to do an A1c (saying that there is no
evidence it is needed) but my husband knows he is prediabetic and does
it about twice a year. His A1c runs about 5.8, which is higher than
mine. Whenever he sees that he is higher than me it reminds him that he
really does need to eat low carb.

They seem to be gone now--I can follow your link but not add them to my
cart and when I search it doesn't show up.

They do have another test at around the same price, from BioSafe, but it
is a mail-in test and has some complicated requirement for review by a
licensed physician.

It has been discontinued. I got one for 10 bucks at Costco in the past
2 weeks.

This is a mail-in one, but at least it doesn't say anything about having
to have a doctor interpret the results (as the Biosafe one sold by Hocks
does).
