Does anyone know if getting a tattoo has any negative effect on a
person that has diabetes ?
Thanks

Yeah, it makes them unattractive.  ;-P

It has one negative effect if you don't know how to deal with it. The
modern tattoo inks can often cause serious hypos [even in
non-diabetics], so be sure that your bg is in the 108 to 120 range
immediately before you start, and 15 gms of carb will help. One high
number won't damage you, but one severe hypo might. Don't drive for at
least an hour-and-half after the tattoo is finished.

I am a t1 with "lots" of tattoos, about 22% of me is done, and I fully
intend to keep going up to 90% or thereabouts.

*what's in that stuff*!

The old inks often caused allergic reactions, and in the late 1980's
they were reformulated to avoid that problem, but the hypo prob was
introduced. That's the "why"

I do not know. That's the "how"

I do not know, only that it is the case, because it has happened to me
-- ONCE. That's the "what"

I've got two... one put on after my diagnosis.

No problem with healing or anything.

I believe that the chance for infection of the tattooed area is greater
for a diabetic.  It wouldnt be worth the risk for me, besides I am too
old for that. lol

I got one on my lower leg about 11 years ago, when I was NOT checking my BG,
not watching what I ate and was still on two basic shots a day (N/R am, N
pm).  I healed quickly, no problems.

Tattoos are said to flouresce with low bgs.
Don't know how much so but a medical team in Scotland are working on
developing "diabetic tattoos" that would alert a dmer to hypos, useful if
they had lost there early warnings..
Also some daibetics have had or thought about having a tattoo as an
indication of their diabetes.
But waht would such a tattoo show and where would it be ?

There is also a question-and-answer session on this site,
which warns you to keep away from areas of poor ciculation
and that at least 50% of those with tattoos regret having them.

Wonder why, when sometimes they look like a freak show.  Look at those
motorcycle guys on the Discovery Channel.  Their whole body is one big
tattoo.  Just a big circus.

I had a friend who always maintained that you could tell one thing
about a person with a tattoo -- he/she had been really drunk at least
once in their life.

CCR is a far better group.

I love Credence. Did you know when they first started out, they were
called the GollyWogs? I especially like the song Stuck in Lodi, since I
live here and can really relate. Lodi is also known as a terrorist
hideout as of late. :-)

Always loved CCR!

And just a little too close to home (Fresno) for my liking!  Can't imagine
how you feel about that.

I'm really not surprised Lindy. We have a whole lot of Detective Webers'
in this town. The crime rate is soaring, and the authorities are hiding
at four way stops, making sure everyone is adhering to the five second
complete stop rule, or throwing up seat belt checkpoints. :-)

Lodi comes to mind on the original tv series Startrek back in the 60s.
Remember the show with the two characters from the planet Lodi.  Frank
Gorshem played two roles where he had his face painted dark on one
side and white on the other side.  Each character role was the
opposite of the other.  Having white on one side (left or right side
of the face) meant that that person was superior to the person with
white on the other side of the face.  The show replicated a lot of our
racial bullshit today.

John Fogerty is still touring. I saw him live a few years ago, with a decent
band that played and sounded like the old CCR... He is also writing some new
stuff. They dropped from public view years ago, when they lost their
copyrights to the old music, and then there were lawsuits and threats of
litigation that jammed up the Fogerty brothers for some time. I think Tom
Fogerty is now deceased. I recently got a new CD called "Credence Clearwater
Revival Chronicle", which features their 20 greatest hits, including the
ones mentioned above....

Some of the best cuts on there are 'I Put a Spell on You', 'Proud Mary',
'Who'll Stop the Rain', and 'I Heard it Through the Grapevine'. Then there
are songs like 'Run Through the Jungle' and 'Lookin Out My Back Door'.....

Hope you are all well and happy today!

You forgot the best: "There's a Bathroom on the Right."

At least, that's what my FIL thought it was.  :-D

I know, I know....

Uh, Susan, the real name of the song was "Bad Moon Rising"  ;-) That's on my
new CD, also....

I'll admit that the way he sang the words, "Bad moon on the rise" did sound
a bit like "bathroom on the right" :-)

Hope you are having a good day today!

What???????????  All music of the late 60s and 70s were easy to dance
to.  Does Disco ring a bell?
