Why is it that most in here are sick?

IMTruthasd@lycos.com - 17 Mar 2006 05:27 GMT Why is it that the most vocal members of this grooup are sick and not in very good shape yet they are giving out the most advice to everyone? The main posters in here are all a complete mess with their health yet they act like they have all the answers. The Truth is they don't. It's like a freakin' hospital clinic in here and the patients have taken over the asylum.
Jennifer's advice is given out like candy yet she is grossly overweight.
Alan S. is on all kinds of meds.
Mack has all kinds of problems with his health.
Susan is a cripple.
Jenny seems to have every disorder known to manking.
Julie Bove is the same, is she and Jenny both just hypochondriacs who are hooked on medical information?
Ozgirl can't go one post without talking about her family....I feel sorry for her kids who she diagnosis daily and no wonder her husband left her.
Cheri is a chain smoking moron who loves to give advice to others about health. Ha!
And these are just a few of the main people playing doctor to others when their own lives are a mess. Diabetes is just one of their problems and they can't even take care of that! If they have such good advice how come they can't help themselves?
New people coming here take note of this. Before you accept advice from strangers spend a little time and do your research on who is giving it to you. Do you want to be like them?
That's the Truth

This is a support group when it function correctly.
The problem with diabetes is the comp;ocations come up later from ongoing damage. It is a bear trap.
I can say that the finding of MHD and the group with the many qualified people is the reason I AM ALIVE NOW. Plus the last years are so much better.
I was losing the battle big time in almost complete ignorance. I was able to get an affordable internet connection I went on an search for diabetic information which was very limited and much of it wrong. I stumbled on the news group called misc.health. diabetes I have been following this group since the mid 90's. I owe a lot to DR. Reid and so many.
MY total knowledge was --take your NPH in the morning. Check your urine.
Then when the labs showed very high blood sugars, I was "overeating". I had slowly gone from 190 lb to 145 lbs. When I was finally given the proper information, I did a lot of tests. The NPH only lasted 12 hours and then my system sent my blood sugar TO LEVELS LIKE 800.
ON and on.--- I did not get my info from the docs but from some of those that you are so critical about.
The group has been diluted by misfits and the medical profession is catching up. It was sad when I found out I had diabetes.
Some here looking for entertainment should find it elsewhere.
I am 76 years old, with a missing leg and a dozen other problems. I do not lay on my rear but do things like planting a lot of trees and varied activities. If I stop I will be gone shortly. ,
It is so necessary that we be positive toward other diabetics and to be super critical of the money grubbers that are an anchor on diabetic research. We are damn ignorant but still a long way ahead of 1976 when I started this game.
Jennifer's test test test is very good advice. A few locals, I had contact with, that did not "keep Up" are long gone and went a bad way... Guy

Well, bonehead, I'll merely answer your subject line. Most of us here have diabetes and that's an illness. Illness = sick. Look that up in your Funk and Wagnal! The remaining folks who don't have diabetes either know someone with diabetes or are merely spammers, scammers or trolls like you!

Trolls are trolling for responses, so if people don't bite, then the trolls get bored & leave.

This is the traditional usenet method of dealing with Trolls, and is regularly suggested. It is similar to the method use to train dogs, and very young children, ignore bad behaviour and reward good behaviour. Thus it is only likely to work if the, The Infant or Attention Seeker theory, is true.

At least we did not have an agenda to sell here. Too many try to use this group with personal whims which does not fit since we come from every segment of our society. Diabetes attacks all.
Anyway all of us two legged critters seem too dumb to not create enemies that can kill us. Even Chung seems to understand this.
Weak people like to chop others up to prove what?
We know the people that count.
Wes Groleau - 19 Mar 2006 00:17 GMT > This is the traditional usenet method of dealing with > Trolls, and is regularly suggested..... A 'tradition' that isn't followed. What actually happens in practice is that
- ten or more people argue with the troll, and
- five or more people post "Please don't feed the trolls" (some of us multiple times) to no avail.

Grandpa Chuck - 17 Mar 2006 20:40 GMT >> > My list of faults for all to see: >> > 3. Bald .... [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] >> >Bald men are the best. : ) Thank you Suzi. The day that I first shaved my head Laurie took a long look at it, asked me to let her feel it and then said, "I really like that! It is so sexy! I hope you leave it that way." That was over twelve years ago and I have never gone more than five days without shaving it since then. She kind of likes it after about three days growth when it is soft and fuzzy. If I don't shave it by the fifth day she will remind me.
I have thought about having a bumper sticker made saying, "Got Bald and Got Balled" That pretty well sums it all up.

Those are just one step above a moped. It was my to and from work vehicle except for winter, so I had a milk crate on the back to carry my lunch pale, etc. I had a bumper sticker made up and put it on the back. It said, "When I grow up I want to be a Harley-Davidson." In time most of the members of the local motorcycle club, aka The Chosen Few, recognized me just from the bumper sticker. They would honk and wave whenever they passed me on the street.

But you're right that speculating publicly about who it might be just gives the whole thing more attention than it deserves and leads to some inaccurate finger pointing.

You might ask your long time friend if she's the source of the anonymous emails threatening legal action if my diabetes web site isn't removed and accusing me of giving advice on my site that is causing people to go blind.
If she isn't, then my apology will be real, but I have to add that if she isn't the source, someone went to great lengths to make it appear that she _was_ the source.

>> Why is it that the most vocal members of this group are sick and not >> in very good shape yet they are giving out the most advice to everyone? As a relative newbie I think I can put down some thoughts as to usefulness of this and similar groups in light of the objections you have raised.
I am particularly motivated by what Guy has said. Over a period of time I have developed tremendous respect for folks like him. It is his ability to share with us his personal tragedies has given folks like me the ability to walk straight! Guy you are the light house for folks like me making us aware of massive bumps on the road. You sacrificed a leg to become the beacon for us. Please accept my gratitude.
IMTruth, every one on your list and many others who did not have the honor to make that list, have in some shape or form shared their personal issues, weaknesses and some areas of pride. Together they have given newbies like me a valuable insights, and a flash light to carry on my own search for better life or what is left of it.
Without people being able to bare most of their vital stats, their sharing with us the inability to stay disciplined, their personal tragedies within their family, financial burden faced by them due to all the complications, newbies will not know what they can do better, what they need to watch out for, and in some case just be ready for it!
I agree that newbies are not given a succinct, uncomplicated, to the point advice even though that is what newbies are looking for initially until they get the hang of complexity. But that is part of the lesson too. It simply isn't that simple. Unless you start your search with dead seriousness you will not even get a hint of an answer.
Its isn't easy to stand naked here and let the world see your struggle with your personal dilemmas and weaknesses. And I am quite aware that some may exhibit a bit of exhibitionist tendencies. But you know what, that's ok too. Because there are occasions when we all we need a shoulder.
The weight of the bag full of dirty tricks diabetes has in store for us can become overwhelming every so often. Do not take that as a sign of weakness in that person. It simply means that humans are social animals who are healthiest when they feel supported by society. As Guy said it so nicely, compare to old days now the world has opened up and one can get support and courage from all kinds of unexpected corners of the world. It also given us new confidence that we as a society still trust vast number of fellow humans simply because they are humans.
I too get discouraged by mud fights and petty words being tossed around here. But I have also come to realize that it is part of our trying to get over our own frustration. We all strongly desire to stay afloat as long as we can. We do get this feeling that the ship is taking in some water. But we can not sit back and take a fatalistic attitude. So when we feel some one is slacking off we get this overwhelming urge to shake that person to say, buddy get going with your work here. May be some times trying harder to do some thing itself will result in bigger leaks. But you know what? Unless I know that, that is what happened to someone else I would not know how to plug-in my leaks.
So while I understand your frustration with your own limitations to keep the ship afloat, I would at the very least requet you to help others try their best. May be you too can learn some thing from their efforts, both successes and more important failures!
Happy pumping!
