In the end, they backed away from drawing any conclusions that sleep
patterns cause DM.

Heh, the headlines I saw a few days ago said Too Much Sleep
or Too Little Causes Diabetes! I thought to myself at the
time that I wouldn't want to be experimenting to find the
happy median. Too little sleep for me is caused by
circumstances not under my control, too much is me trying to
catch up on the too little.

AHA!
Now I know why I got diabetes -- 30 years before diagnosis I had several
years of too-little sleep during the week & sleep-all-weekend to catch up --
thus doing *both* of the Bad Things!

Hello BJ,

I guess that means I am doomed, alas... I hardly ever, I mean ever,
sleep more than 4-5 hrs per night... Indeed, it is no big deal for me
to skip whole nights of sleep altogether...

Maybe that is part of why I got the big D.... ?

According to this article....

"A study in Diabetes Care shows men who got little sleep (up to five or six
nightly hours) or a lot of sleep (more than eight hours per night) were more
likely to develop diabetes than men with moderate amounts of nightly sleep."
So...the sleep figures mentioned--- too little sleep <7 hours ---too much
sleep  >8--mean that only those getting either 7 or 8 hours a sleep are in a
safe zone.

This is hard to believe.

I suspect that cause, effect and correlation are just a
little confused in this "study".
