I thought I'd share this because it was delicious and only caused a 30
mg rise in bg after eating a huge plate full - at least two servings.
Please keep in mind that I am the product of exceptional and patient
women and rarely have had to boil water or butter toast much less cook a
meal.
Low Carb Spaghet
Dreamfields Spaghetti, - 5g of carbs per serving (because of much higher
fiber content).
Naturally Preferred, organic, Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce - 10 grams of
carbs per serving.
Green, Yellow and Red Bell Peppers, Onions, Tomatoes, Garlic, Oregano,
and what ever else you like in your spaghet.
Ground up steak - extra lean.
Here's how I made it.
Cut up all the veg.
Browned the meat
Simmered the sauce after adding a can of stewed tomatoes.
Added the vegs to the meat and covered it for about 30 min.
Cooked the Pasta until it was 'al dente'
Added the vegs and meat to the sauce and let it simmer on very low for
about two hours partially covered spooning off the oil/fat every hour or
so until it was nice and thick.
Next time I'll try to find a sauce with no added sugar or just make a
sauce. But honestly it was better than I've had in a couple of years and
well worth the 30 extra Bg which self corrected in 3 hours anyway.
It seems that I can eat this pasta with little effect. I hope someone
else can also - it's pretty good.

Have you tested your bg for several hours after eating Dreamfields?
Thos of us who are insulin resistant often get a very late and long rise
in bg after 2-4 hours.

And even some who aren't IR. While it does prevent a fast rise, I feel
the total carb count listed on the box is misleading FOR SOME DM'S. It
tastes fine and has great texture, so I'm in no way dissing on
Dreamfields--just warning anyone new to it, to take the carb count with
a grain of salt.

I've tested a lot after Dreamfields and I've found I can eat a 2 - 3 oz
(pre cooked) portion very happily, for my glucose.
But another big bonus for me is that "normal" carbs and pasta cause a
craving response in me. I get ravenous about an hour or two after
eating them. Dreamfields does not cause this. I can only attribute it
to the delayed digestion.
So where I'd never be happy with 2 - 3 oz of regular pasta, I'm quite
content with Dreamfields.

Dreamfields gives me a small spike 4-5 hours after I eat it, but like
you I've found that something about it shuts down hunger. Probably a
large lump of undigested pasta in the tummy. So the rise from the pasta
is balanced out by all the things I don't eat the rest of the evening
because I'm not hungry.
But I do measure the portion size on a scale because it does look like 1
20 oz serving is closer to 15-20 grams in effect for me than whatever it
is the label claims.

The large lump of undigested pasta really dampens the desire.
It reminds me of a dog I had as a kid that liked to eat socks.
We didn't know where the socks were going until after a particularly busy
day at the sock buffet the dog barfed out a wide selection of foot wear.

I didn't see anything last night out of the expected but I did make enough
to eat some today also.
I'll watch closer today.

Dreamfields spikes the hell out of me.

lol, me too. The last time I tried some I was:
122 mg/dl @ 1 hr
147 mg/dl @ 2 hrs
188 mg/dl @ 2.5 hrs
Then I jumped on my treadmill for a 1/2 hr.
113 mg/dl after walk 3 1/4 hrs
I haven't had any since. I don't think I'd faired any worse with "regular"
pasta. (IMO)

I got 108 - 128 and it never got any higher. I had half as much that night
and it hardly made a blip.

Lucky so far and I had some that night also.
Uncle Enrico - 16 Mar 2006 23:01 GMT
Chief,
I too get the post Dreamfields 3 to 5 hour elevated blood glucose so
I've had to take the following steps when eating pasta dishes:
1. I mix one-quarter serving of Dreamfields with one-quarter serving of
regular pasta and cook to precise Dreamfields directions for cooking
time. Otherwise, Dreamfields pasta doesn't delay the carb effect.
2. Using a julienne slicer, I slice up a bunch of zucchini strands and
sauté them in olive oil and basil.
3. Then I mix the Dreamfields, regular pasta and stir fried zucchini and
serve with sauce.
The carb effect of the two pastas are limited by the small portions and
the small spike is staggered. The zucchini strands give me a large plate
of pasta extender with little or no carb effect. I get a big plate of
food and friendly post meal numbers.
I hope someone out there can take advantage of this.
BTW beware of the large sugar load in prepared pasta sauces on the store
shelves.
Also, Dreamfields delayed carb effect is not based on fiber. Their fiber
content is a miniscule 2 grams against 42 grams of carb. They treat
their pasta in some manner to delay the carb digestion.

The delay is based upon fiber but not the quantity of fiber; they use a
fiber blend and some sort of process they plan to patent that binds it
to the starch matrix to make it undigestible. Obviously, for some of
us, it just slows digestion.

This is a link to their patent application, if anyone is
interested. It looks like they have done some work on potato
products and tortillas too. (copy and paste into your browser)

Still has the kick of a mule. Dreamfields or any pasta = grab the
bottle of novolog first.

Maybe that's the problem - what is indigestable to some is to others.
I'm going to test it again today.

Hi Gene,
I have Dreamfields from time to time, but David, Susan, and the others are
right to urge caution. I have always had to be careful to moderate my
portions, because of the delayed reaction. Carbs and carbs, it seems....

Yep, I'd guess that's right with anything but if one other person finds it
ok then that's a plus.

In the supermarket, in the pasta aisle. Look for the black box.

Which supermarket?
I've never seen it in any of ours.
Lou
Jennifer - 17 Mar 2006 04:31 GMT
All the big chains in Los Angeles carry it.
If you can't find it in your area... go to their website:
www.dreamfieldsfood.com.
You'll can locate a seller in your area, or buy it online from them, or
at netrition.com.

I've seen it in all the supermarkets here (WA) and also in NY. Where do you
live?

We are near Atlanta, GA and buy it at Publix Supermarkets.
Because of some warnings in here, my wife tested after eating
Dreamfields after 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr, 4 hr, 5 hr, and 6 hrs. and
never saw a spike.

I love Dreamfields and have no problem with it however I don't have it more
than once a week. Just got my order today from netrition for Dreamfield's
lasagna. Will be making old fashioned lasagna this weekend with tiny
meatballs, shredded beef, sauce , mozzarella, ricotta. Next week I'll make a
vegetable lasagna with a white alfredo sauce and plenty of colorful veggies,
zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, spinach, ricotta and mozzarella. I love to
cook Italian! I try to have a soup with my pasta dishes as well as a lot of
fresh veggies, antipasto or a nice Italian salad with black olives. FTR, I
have used pasta instead of rice with oriental stir-fry and made mac and
cheese with the elbow macaroni. My son is a new diabetic that has excellent
control when he eats at home. I may have a "failure to launch" in the making
here. I'll have to try your veggie spaghetti soon!:)

I spent all day yesterday looking for the spike monster to come and get
me but it decided to skip me. I'm going to try that Lasagna next. BTW, I
got one 26 and still at home. Drives me nuts half the time and I
understand the other half. I had two that flew the coop early and one
that is exactly like the movie I saw last night.

Sounds good, but....
Dreamfields gives me a high BG 3+ hours out plus a most wonderful gas.
It may be the result of slower breakdown of the pasta.

Might work for you, but I tried it just once and it spiked me like crazy! I
ate the same size portion that I do of regular pasta. I should add that
regular pasta does NOT spike me provided I watch my portion size. Now I eat
only corn or rice pasta due to food allergies. This works for me too.

Sorry to hear that and envious that regular pasta is OK. The Dreamfields is
sweeter to the taste to me some reason and sweeter pasta isn't what I'd
normally opt for.
