Hi,

For those that may be using the "one touch ultra smart" blood sampler
::  The before meal range is 4.0 to 7.0 mmol per litre and the after
meal range is 5.0 to 11.0 mmol per litre.  Are these ranges for people
with diabetes or for all individuals ?  I seem to think from an email
that I received (misplaced) that the range for diabetics is one point
greater.

Thanks.

Those ranges are the old, outdated ranges suggested for people with
diabetes. Anyone who actually keeps their blood sugars at the higher end
of those ranges is asking for painful neuropathy and other diabetic
complications.

The latest recommendation from AACE which you'll find in the booklet
that comes with new Ultra meters is to keep your blood sugar under 7.8
mmol/l at 2 hours.

Your fasting (and before meals) range, ideally should be under 5.5 mmol/
l per liter which is normal. Between 5.5 mmol/l and 6.9 mmol/l is
"pre-diabetic".

But the lower, the better. I've put together some of the research data
that points to 7.8 mmol/L as the level at which organ damage occurs on
my http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes site.
