By which I mean - can I get free stuff there?

Sponsored by the American Diabetes Association in partnership with
Northeastern Oklahoma Diabetes Educators.

"Living with Diabetes"  Oklahoma's largest Diabetes Workshop and
Exhibit Hall.  Tulsa Marriott - Southern Hills

- Expert panel discussion on new treatments and preventing
complications.

- Cooking demo

- Exhibits of diabetes products, services and supplies

- Free screenings

- Youth zone

- Pet zone

- Free info on Part D

- Your diabetic horoscope

Ok, I just made up that last one.

Somehow I get the impression that I should leave my wallet in the
car if I attend.  Is that unfair?

I just attended this last month in my area. There was alot of
free stuff. The chef at mine was the "Diabetic Chef" Chris Smith
http://www.thediabeticchef.com/ He cooked up some good desserts.
The only thing I noticed that they was selling was Chris's
cookbook for I believe $20.  One thing they had everyone do was a
little exercise ie: "the Chicken dance". I enjoyed it even with
the dance.

If you've got nothing better to do... what the hell?

You never know what you might find.

I went to a "health fair" and got a free cholesterol screening and a good
number too.
I thought it was well worth my time.

I work the Support Group table at two of these,  one in March,  one in
November.     Yes,  you can leave your wallet in the car.    There's nothing
for sale  (at ours at least).

March is National Diabetes Something or Other Month,   November is National
Diabetes Something Else month    (put "Education" and "Awareness" into the
proper slots)     Hospitals and ADA affiliates try to sponsor some sort of
Expo in these months.    My local hospital does November,   the hospital in
the next city does March.

There are freebies offered.    Bayer is pushing their Ascensia meters right
now so I would expect free Bayer meters.    LifeScan sometimes matches them.

My only regret is that I miss the free medical lectures by medical
professionals since I am stuck at my table.    At our Expos,  the lectures
approximate the discussions you had hoped your doc would have with you
during your last two visits but didn't because he had not enough time.    I
get there early and sneak in my annual Kidney function test though.

I personally would go and really leave my wallet in the car.  You might
find something that you might like to buy.  Maybe some books or
something.  It sounds interesting to me.

You must park in different car-parks to the ones I used in
the States (or here:-).

I prefer not to risk the loss of both the car and the wallet
at the same time:-)

I'd still go to the convention. Like usenet, with a
common-sense filter, there will be lots of good things among
despite the hype and promotions.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Alan,  I assumed she lived in other areas besides New York.  My car
becomes invisible when I park it so no one sees it. lol

By all means go.  They give away lots of free stuff, and what you can't use
you can give away.  If you plan to get any of the free screenings, get there
early because the lines can get long as the day goes on.  There are a lot of
good seminars, cooking and exercise demonstrations, etc.  We go to these all
the time and have never spent a penny, except the subway fare to get there.
