Diet Coke with Splenda

I find the new Splenda variety of Diet coke to be a little "too" sweet -
even with added lemon juice.
I tried  adding some plain seltzer to it - less than half the portion - and
like it better this way.
Jennifer - 07 Mar 2006 17:47 GMT
Try the Diet Rite Zero.

Splenda... no caffiene... not as sweet as the Diet Coke.

Laurie and I tried Diet Coke with Splenda and found it to be just
plain nasty! We couldn't stand the taste at all. It is worse than Diet
Pepsi, and that's saying quite a bit.

The following information is given with the utmost respect
for the armed forces and civilians who have died in the
current war in Iraq. According to http://icasualties.org/oif/
The number of Americans killed in Iraq as of Mar. 05, 2006 is 2,302.
Americans wounded = 16,653
United Kingdom = 103
Other = 103
Iraqi deaths in excess of 30,000 - probably many more.

That's my opinion too.  And the Coke Zero is worse by far.  I could be dying
of thirst and would pass that stuff by.

Coke Zero seems to go flat very quickly.

Maybe that is because no one can drink if fast enough that it still
has some carbonation in it. LOL   I had to say that.

If it were the only diet soda on the market then I might consider doctoring
it.  But it's not.  So I'll just buy something that tastes good to begin
with.

I prefer seltzer to diet sodas of any kind. However, if you ask for
that in a restaurant most of them don't know what you are talking
about and they don't have it.

one.

No. You will get club soda. Club soda contains bicarbonate of soda,
aka baking soda, aka salt. Seltzer, on the other hand contains only
carbonated water unless it is a flavored seltzer such as lemon
seltzer. Even then all they added was lemon flavoring.

I like club soda, but they charge two to three times as much for that
as they do seltzer in the super market. The sad thing is that seltzer
costs more than diet pop such as Diet Coke even though it is only
carbonated water.

Order club soda in most restaurants that have a bar and you will find
yourself paying the same price as for a mixed drink and no refills. At
least that has been my experience.

Yep.  You'll get a teensy glass with those teensy straws and a lot of ice.
If you order a diet soda, you might get the same or you might get a large
glass.  I've never gotten a large glass of club soda.

If you're ever out in Los Angeles Chuck... I'll buy you a seltzer at
Jerry's Deli.

They offer a HUGE glass of .02 Plain on their menu.

Cost:  nothing.

Golly gee Jennifer!

It's almost worth the trip just to have a glass or two.

When I was a kid and there were drug store soda jerks if you wanted a
Coke or such they put a measured amount of the syrup in a glass along
with sparkling water, aka soda or seltzer. Years later every fountain
that I saw that had Coke, Root Beer, etc. also had a button that would
just dispense carbonated water. I don't really know when those were
phased out.

A couple of years ago I could buy a twelve-pak of club soda for the
same price as seltzer. A few months ago when Laurie was having a
stomach flu episode I decided to buy her some. I was in for quite a
shock. A six-pak cost the price of a 12-pak of seltzer plus half the
price of another one. I could buy a one liter bottle, but that would
have gone flat before we could use it. It was still pretty high priced
compared to 7-up, etc.

I got a seltzer maker for my birthday last year.

You put water in... and use a CO2 cartridge to fizz it up.

Might be worth looking into.

We have two of them. They are really nice for lemonade and ice tea.
You can either mix it before putting it in the bottle or mix a little
in the bottom of a glass and then add seltzer to it from the bottle.

That's not true!  I just looked it up.  It has 80 mg per serving.  From this
link, you'll have to click on "Inside Canada Dry" and then the club soda to
get the nutritional info.

http://www.canadadry.com/

This is one reason why I prefer seltzer.  Less sodium.  When I used to go
out to clubs, I'd drink club soda and it would make me retain water like
crazy.

I love seltzer and drank it a lot when I lived in NY.  Here, it is not so
common and when you do find it, it is expensive.  No restaurants have it
that I know of.  Club soda is a little more common but it's higher in sodium
so I don't drink it very often.

Flatman, I always use half seltzer and half diet coke or pepsi because I
want to cut the caffeine and I find it less sweet also.

I don't drink diet sodas.  None of them taste very good to me.  I get
the flavored carbonated water from Walmart or Krogers called Crystal
Clear.  It has no sugar in it and it tastes pretty good.  Doesn't go
flat too quickly, either.

Yes, excuse me.  LOL  I guess I tend to think of "soda" as cola or the
syrupy colored fizzy stuff.  This is clear and crisp with more fizz than
flavor.
