I am curious to find out what people are paying for Metformin. My bottle
says Metformin 500mg Tab Sandoz Qty 120.  I got mine filled at the local
wal-mart and it cost me $24.00, that is my copay for the prescription.  I
have seen in some posts that some people are paying around $8.00 to $10.00.
Just wondering if I am overpaying or are there other discounts people are
getting thru Medicaid or Medicare.  My insurance is thru my employer and the
provider is Cigna and it is Open Access Plus.  My med card says Rx
$10/20/35/50.  My next thing is to check Cigna's website and see what they
are showing the dollar amounts stand for.

Is purchasing meds and supplies online cheaper and is it safe to do so?
Thanks in advance.

My last bottle of very nice smelling pills (500mg) cost $15.00 at
Eckerds. I guess maybe I have better insurance than I thought!

check the prices online at www.costco.com
you do NOT have to be a member of Costco to use their pharmacy - either on
line or in the store itself.
I don't have prescription insurance..   "3 month" supply of  Metformin 1000
mg PLUS a "3 month supply" of  my blood pressure medication, Lisinopril, was
less than $30.00 (note this is the TOTAL for the 2 meds)!

Sam's Club has the same policy for their pharmacy... you do not have to be a
member.
My husband found that Sam's club was a little cheaper than Costco for his
thyroid medication.

Wow!!!! That's a bunch less than I am paying with my obscenely
overpriced health insurance that supposedly covers prescriptions.

I pay around $2 for a 30 day supply, but comparing cost vs. price makes
no sense because many of us have a different prescription plan and some
people do not have any prescription plan at all.

Do you have a prescription deductible?

You may have to reach your deductible before the discount kicks in.

I just received my first shipment of Metformin 500mgs 360 pill (a three
month amount) for a copay of $35 and change.  this represents 25% of teh
140 adn change cost of the drug at Express Scripts mail order that my plan
uses.

Under my old plan, which is still in effect for those under 65, the copay
for any diabetes med was $5.00 for a two month supply.  Well, you win some
and you loose some.  We now pay about $100 a month less per person fo rthe
coverage.  Some of my meds which cost me a $40 copy for the two months
under the old plan are now something over $40, but for the three months.

I forgot to add that I take the extended release.  I imagine that makes it
a bit pricier.

I just checked www.costco.com  's pharmacy price list.

Metformin generic 500 mg. tabs sell at 100 tabs for $13.39.
Their 1000 mg. tabs sell for 18.99 for 100 tabs. You could cut them in half.
I've checked my drug info and there's no prohibition against cutting
Metformin.

You can order online with an Rx.

If you are using your insurance, then wouldn't your copay always be the
same?  Or is it a percentage?  Mine is structured so that there is a $1,000
catastrophic cap for all medical, including meds.  Once I've paid $1,000 out
of pocket for the year, the rest is free.  Until then, I pay $9.00 for a 30
day supply, no matter the med.

I imagine everyone has different co pays from their insurance company.
For my diabetic drugs, I get a three months supply for 5.00 but then
there are some I pay ten for, others 30 and one 70.  these are for three
month supplies.

I pay three dollars for a bottle of Metformin ER. If you have a Fry's
Grocery Store close by you might be able to get it cheaper. Before the
Pharmacist saw how much my co-Pay would be he told me he could give me a
special price of $11.00...it's some kind of policy the store has...I didn't
ask to many questions because once I found out my co-pay was $3.00 it wasn't
important.
