you would need to see a podiatrist.

I don't think that would help.  They only do feet.  My podiatrist told me to
see a vascular surgeon for my spots.

I sometimes get them too, when they get really bad, a short course of
Prednisone will clear them up.

I also find that hot showers followed by rubbing the area with hand
cream helps.

Do you have edema??  I have much less problem now that I have my edema
under control.

only feet?  damn I am glad I get good doctors with my insurance.  Mine
is a specialist who also teaches at the local medical school.  Does a
lot more than just feet.

The cause, like you said in another post, can be from a number things.
You need to start with one doc and go from there.  A GP won't be able
to diagnose the problem.  It could be something a podiatrist can
treat, a dermatologist can treat, or a vascular surgeon can treat.
Sometimes it's a matter of eliminating what's it's not, before you can
determine what it is.

You can't treat them unless you know what they are.  I had red patches that
turned out to be stasis dermatitis caused by venous insufficiency.
Treatment for that is compression hose and keeping my feet elevated above my
heart as much as possible.  You may or may not have this.  Could be some
sort of rash.  Have you showed the spots to your Dr.?  If he or she can't
help, then go to a dermatologist.  We often think that all of our problems
are related to diabetes.  But this isn't always the case.

When I was first diagnosed, and for about six months after, I had what
Julie is describing as stasis dermatitis on my shins... Really red
areas that bled easily and always itched to high heaven. Also, I had a
persistent fungus on my ankle, which I still have, but also which is
now very much under control. Anyway, after months of tight BG control,
moderate exercise, and salves and creams, the redness on the shins is
mostly gone. I think the lesson to be drawn from this experience of
mine, if any, is that a T2 diabetic can recover somewhat from some of
the advancing symptoms of this disease, if he/she really works hard to
control the BG on a consistent basis.

Will, T2
