... I got a solicitation in the mail today from Prevention for a book
called "The Sugar Solution" supposedly packed with all sorts of
valuable info to keep you from going diabetic.

I've seen these "reports" from them before on other topics, and have
actually seen some of the books. Usually, there are no astounding
revelations, so I have no great expectations for this one. And since
I'm already diabetic, I probably know some of what they offer (without
*knowing* that I know <g>).

So, has anyone seen this book yet?
Should I bother getting it and returning it within their free trial
period?

I thought I saw references to this book in here in the past, but when
I googled the group I found none. :(

TIA

IMHO, don't bother. Those little books are just hype. BTDT a few months
ago. I do like the magazine. Used to get it many years ago and it has
some excellent advice about exercise, weight management and the latest
supplements that are in vogue. IOW, if you want the magazine, get it,
but don't expect the miricles that are hyped in the little books.

Hi noneya:-)

Yet another search for a better way? I do admire
persistence, but....

A quick look at their web-site shows that it appears to be a
book based on the GI, intended for those needing to lose
weight rather than for diabetics. My estimation of it's
value immediately drops when every link for more info takes
you to a page asking for credit card details.

I've still yet to see a book that gives advice half as good
as starting here:
http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm
and reading asd and mhd daily.

Invest your $24.95 in test strips or up-dating to Agent 3:-)

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Same thing as the mailing, except the links ...

Am here, doing that ;-)
(except the signal to noise ratio has been a bit high lately)

Agent aint broke, so why "fix" it? <g>.

OOPS... meant to say it's been LOW. Too many Chung and anti Chung
posts to sift through to get to the good stuff ;-)

Can't you use a killfile and not see as much?

My sincere apologies - I wrote that without checking. I
confused you with another poster. Sorry about that.

Remind me - particularly after your next comment on Chung -
does Forte Agent 1.91/32.564 have killfile capability?

That's why. If it does, ignore the comment (and use the
capability:-)

I automatically kill-file and delete EVERY respondent to a
chung post - and any who respond to the respondent.
Sometimes it takes a while to realise someone good has
disappeared and I have to search the list and re-instate
them.

Consequently the only real s/n ratio problem I've had is a
certain thread that no longer deals with retinopathy.

AFAIK it does...looked at it ages ago but never implemented it.

That's just too much work... (see my reply to another poster <g>)

I just note the worst offenders and set the action
on match to "ignore thread"  That way I don't lose
the decent people just because of a lapse of judgment.

The man who says, "I can do it!" may sometimes fail.
The man who says, "Impossible!" will never succeed.

I just recently figured the ignore posts settings. I also
had ng's set to "hide read messages". I had failed to check
the "hide read and ignored messages". I was previously still
seeing the messages, except they were grey not bold subject
lines.
