I was looking for a way to convert my BG reading to reflect what my HbA1c
*might* be. I found a person that had a excel spreadsheet to download. I'm
not sure how accurate it will be, but I'll guess I'll find out in a couple
of weeks when I go to the doc in Feb. I thought I put up a link if anyone is
interested.

There are two correlations for converting HbA1c to average bG and vice
versa.     The above URL uses the older one.

 aver bG = 33.3  x HbA1c - 86

The newer one is:

 average bG = 35.6 x HbA1c -77.3

Neither one is based on the kind of rigorous bG data that most of us would
prefer.

Older one:    4 bG tests a day,  every day for 60 days

 (Nathan, et al, N Engl J Med (1984). )

Newer one  (DCCT):    7 bG tests a day but only one day every 3 months for
several years.

The newer one has a R-squared of 0.67 which is not impressive.   I haven't
found the Nathan article yet.   (N. Engl. J. Med requires paid access.)

Yea, I didn't think it wouldn't be real accurate. For someone new to
diabetes like me, I thought it might be good enough to be at least an
indicator of what I might expect to see from the quarterly labs. Thanks
for the info.

There is no such formula or method. The two measure two very different
things ! Yes, some here will say there is a direct relationship...there
exists NO SUCH DIRECT RELATIONSHIP.

well, guess you failed those anger management
classes.. welp maybe next time eh?

funny that my endo gave me a sheet with a formula
on it, and interesting enough, it's worked out almost
exactly the same each a1c i've had taken.. maybe
more reading other then your spiderman comics gman
and you might actually learn something about DM.

That is sort of my experience, also... As my doctors have explained, and my
own reading has confirmed, the a1c is essentially a reflection of your
average BG over the previous 3 months, on the theory that your red blood
cells are completely replaced over a three month period. Glycolization of
the blood cells that is measured by the a1c occurs as the red blood cells
are produced, thus establishing the relationship that makes it a relevant
measure as to BG. There are charts and calculations by which the a1c can be
interpreted as a measure of average BG.

Perhaps this is too simplistic as an explanation, but I think it gets to the
basic idea.

Well then your endo is WRONG  !!

Two COMPLETELY different things are being measured...yet...I know...you
and half the other hypochondriacs here can wave your wand and make the
formula work. I can predict my A1c too...know how...BECAUSE MY ROUTINE
VARIES VERY LITTLE AND MY LAST 4 A1C'S HAVE BEEN WITHIN 0.2 OF EACH
OTHER. Dumb as dirt you are !!!

looks to you to replace their endo's or other doctors.

And insensitive and rude as a rhino you are. And that's
unfair to rhinos.

gman has made this erroneous claim many times before.  your endo will
not agree with gman.
