I have had diabetes typr 2 for 8 years. My question is the lower legs turn
dark red and I know I have some neuropithy but have never seen a post
regarding the skin changes in the lower legs. Any ideas??

See your doctor. If the redness is accompanied by swelling and is warm
and tender to the touch, it may be cellulitis. This is an infection, and
can lead to systemic life-threatening infection. Diabetics are more
prone to cellulitis than the rest of the population.
Of course, it could be many other things, too, some benign, some not. A
darkening of the skin around the ankles and feet can be acanthosis
nigricans, a benign skin condition associated with diabetes.
Bottom line: You need a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Could be any number of things and not necessarily related to diabetes. My
lower legs were turning bright red. I then developed a rash and that in
turn ulcered. Drs. kept telling me I had psoriasis. All the while I
couldn't walk. I was using a walker and staggering, really. Even with the
walker my legs would give out. Turns out I have bad veins in my legs. Not
varicose veins. Those are the ones close to the surface. These are the
deep veins. They were leaking. So the blood wasn't returning to my heart
and wasn't getting to my leg muscles like it should. The redness I was
seeing was the blood pooling under my skin. And when enough of it had
pooled, my skin began to erode.

one of the rare times when excess iron needs to be looked into. it
could also be something really serious with leaking blood vessels.
what has your doctor told you?

Ever since I've had neuropathy in my feet and legs, I have had these dark
blotches across the tops of my feet and ankles that comes and goes depending
on how bad the pain is, looks like long blotchy blood blisters or something.
Even my drs couldnt tell me what exactly it was.

I have had something similar, honda... Not as bad as you describe, but
something that when it gets really bad, even makes the top of my right
foot peel a little, as it is going away... All I have been able to
determine is that it seems to be related to my diabetes and
neuropathy... I do know that when I get those flare-ups the pain is
crippling.... Have you considerd gout, or been tested for that?
About the lower legs.... my problem was with the shins... itching,
turning red, loss of hair, etc. Also, the fungus I have written about
in other posts.... Tight BG control has cleared up most of the
problems... but not completely.
I feel intuitively that the best advice would be to watch your BG like
a hawk, and maybe see a vascular specialist if the problems persist.
It could be that you have some circulatory problem.....
Good luck....

Richard I hope you have discussed this with our doctor. I believe that
when the circulation is not good, the skin changes color, but I only
thnk and dont know. I hope this hasnt been happening for years and you
have nt consulted a doctor.
A leg is a terrible thing to lose.
