The OneTouch® UltraSmart® Meter is ideal for people who make insulin
adjustments. It automatically collects and organizes glucose data by
time of
day, so you can quickly and easily understand what to adjust and when.
The
OneTouch UltraSmart Meter requires just a speck of blood. That can mean
less
pain, even when you test on your fingers. It gives you a test result in
just
5 seconds so there's no waiting. You can also test on your forearm,
which is
less painful than finger-testing.** It's easy for you or your health
care
professional to download your test results. And if you're interested in
using your meter to keep track of the kind of information you'd enter
in a
logbook, SmartButtons® make it really easy. It's a neat tool to help
you
lower your A1c.
The thing I like most about this meter is that test results are entered
automatically into 12 charts and graphs including glucose result, date
and
time, insulin, cabs, exercise, HbAic, out-of-range glucose result,
fats/proteins/calories, doctor visits, eye/foot exams, height/weight,
and
blood pressure/cholesterol which can help you manage your diabetes.
Results easily download for you and your health care professional.
SmartButtons give you the option to enter more information.

The CVS flyer in Sunday's paper is hawking a OneTouch Ultra free after
rebate, and an UltraSmart for $10 after rebate. No strips purchase
required, but how ya gonna use the things without 'em...

We don't have a CVS locally. How do their prices compare to Walmart?
My local mom and pop pharmacy beats the socks off walmart prices.
Walmart sells novolog for $82, and the local pharmacy sells it for
$66. Canadian drugs sells novolog for $37.

Maybe you have Eckerd's? That's what CVS was around here until maybe
18mo ago.
CVS prices are pretty comparable to Wally's, based on the few trips
I've made into Wally during the past five years. CVS routinely offers
2f1 pricing on their house-branded supplements, which is generally the
only OTC stuff I buy there.
I can't speak to their retail pricing on insulin, as I'm not yet
using. I have an appointment with the NP at my endo's office for
"insulin education", but not until the end of February (sooner if
somebody cancels and my name makes it to the top of the waiting list).
My diabetic meds and supplies don't fall under my pharmacy insurance,
either; my regular medical insurance covers them and my copay is a
flat $7 for a months' haul of everything I need - lancets, strips,
metformin. If I could just convince them that the Toprol and Crestor
are part and parcel of my diabetes treatment...

manufacturer's mail in rebate with the purchase of

Why bother when one could pop into their local store and get it
without shipping cost.

Most here just give unneeded meters away. Some doctors give them to
patients.
You came to the wrong place to sell a meter. Why not donate it to
someone who can't afford the $10.

Or free from your doctor/CDE. Or much cheaper than $35 on eBay if you must
pay for one. After losing mine in November I tried to scam a freebie from
Lifescan but had no luck. I got one for $16 (including shipping) on eBay.
When I told my CDE in December that my reports were missing some data
because of the lost meter, she told me to ask her for one next time.
Usually I like to get them directly from the manufacturer, since they make a
fortune on the strips.

BG meters cost almost nothing on ebay. Too bad the damn sticks are so
expensive.

I recently talked to my insurance company--Blue Cross in
California--and they told me to call AccuChek or One Touch, say I had
Blue Cross and they will send me a free meter. For One Touch that was
the Ultra or UltraSmart.
Before spending money for a meter, I strongly recommend talking to your
doctor, diabetes edcuator and/or insurance company so that you don't
have to pay for the meter. They will get you for the strips no matter
what!
