Hey
Are there any breakfast cereals that do not raise bg too much? I am thinging
about trying all bran, ther is a ton of fiber in it.
Anyone had any luck with any?
Would be more than happy to "glow" and chat about this and other things
like sex, drugs and rock -n- roll that interest those following
this thread here during the next on-line chat (01/12/06) from 6 to 7 pm

Sort of a cool sig Nivana.... I would stick to the all bran, or
oatmeal. You might try a simple piece of sprouted whole grain bread
toasted.... I like Ezekiel Bread, by Food for Life, but brand label
does not matter.... Whatever you choose, monitor your BG before and
after. That does matter. Do that, and you will know where to head from
here.....

Atkins puts out a line of low-carb cereals, fruit and grain bars, etc...
called Morning Start. At only 3 to 5 grams of net carbs per serving, Atkins
products are worth a try. They're pretty good too. Also, there's Fiber One,
which has a lot of fiber, is sugar free and has only 11 net carbs. Milk
contains a lot of carbs as well, so you might want to try Soy Milk...the
unsweetened kind, obviously.

I eat a cup of Fiber One most mornings. It's 28g of fiber and doesn't taste

Cereals are mostly carbs so it would stand to reason that they would raise
BG. My sister in law was eating some kind of high protein Kashi cereal that
contains soy. It worked for her but she could only eat a tiny portion.
Only a couple of bites. And no milk.

I avoid everything with any kind of flour. However, I can eat old-fashioned
oatmeal without increasing my glucose readings. I have a bowl of oatmeal
and a handful or fresh blueberries or some sliced strawberries almost every
morning. (The fruit would not work for many people, but it does for me.)
Be sure to use old-fashioned oatmeal or steel cut oatmeal -- do *not* use
"quick" oatmeal.

Nearly everything raises my bg. Usual fasting bg is 6.5 ish, 2hr pp hi 6s to
lo 7s. Have tried All-Bran, Oatmeal, Bran Flakes etc all the things that are
"good" . Best I have come up with is linseed "porridge". Plenty of recipes
about.

I tried to keep eating All Bran, my standard breakfast during my IGT
days, but it does not work for me any more. I miss the morning crunch,
but I was probably eating more than the serving on the box most of the
time anyway. Even the 1/2 cup was too much for me when I went back to
testing after my official diagnosis. I now eat 1/4 cup cottage cheese,
1/4 cup yogurt, 3 tablespoons ground flax seeds, and about 1/3 cup
blueberries, or rasberries if I can afford them, or strawberries, or
blackberries, usually frozen versions. The ground flax seeds are not
bad, and provide the mouth sense I really seem to need in the morning.
