I have read that hair loss can be started or aggrivated by such
diseases as diabetes and thyroid disorders (I have both!).  How
aggresive is this kind of hair loss?

TIA...

I used to have really nice hairy legs.... Now they are relatively
slick... If you are a man who was once, if not proud, then comfortable
with his hairy legs, this can come as quite a shock!

Have you talked to your doctor about this hair loss on your legs? This
may be a symptom of something much more serious than your diabetes or
thyroid disorder. It is far more likely to be a blood circulation
problem and should not be taken lightly at all.

Good luck to you.
Let us know what you find out.

The following information is given with the utmost respect
for the armed forces and civilians who have died in the
current war in Iraq. According to http://icasualties.org/oif/
The number of Americans killed in Iraq as of Jan. 8, 2006 is 2,210.
United Kingdom = 98 Other = 103  Iraqi deaths in excess of 30,000
according to President Bush - probably many more.

My hair was thinning quite badly as a result of untreated hypothyroidism,
then it got worse as I lost the weight to deal with the diabetes diagnosis.
At its worst, my ponytail was much thinner than a pencil - yuk! Now the
weight has stabilised, and I'm close to an optimum dose of thyroxine, things
are getting back to normal. I reckon it's doubled in thickness in the last
2-3 months : )

When my wife was first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (5/12/05) a lot of
hair fell out.  We estimated that she lost over 30 % of her hair.  She first
noticed it when she took a shower and the drain got plugged up.  We couldn't
believe it was possible to lose that much hair in such a short period of
time.  We let the hair dry out and put it into a zip-lock bag to take to the
doctor.  It filled a quart size bag.  The doctor said not to worry.  He felt
like her body was trying to adjust to the quick change from the high blood
glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, etc. to everything coming down to more
normal levels.  Her A1C at the time was 15.1.  That has dropped to 6.0 in
December.  He said he would send her to a dermatologist if it kept coming
out.  The good news is that is has stopped falling out and looks like it is
growing back....lots of short hairs mixed with the long ones.  It thinned
out quite a bit, but is looking better.  I thought I was going to have to
shave my head to show moral support. :>)
