FreeStyle software - update

There have been a couple of messages on this NG concerning FreeStyle
software.  The original software had a defect, and users were advised not to
use it.  Support was also withdrawn.  I mentioned in an earlier message that
I had contacted Abbott because I like to take printouts of my test results
to the doctor's office.  I learned at that time that the software and a
cable were free to FreeStyle Flash users (I assume that FreeStyle users
would have to pay for the cable, but I think you could make a good "case"
that software should be provided).

Just to update you -- they were as good as their word.  I received the
software and a cable yesterday.  No postage or fees of any sort.  So, if any
of you are using FreeStyle Flash, you might want to contact the company and
put in your request.  The FreeStyle Flash package also has a coupon that you
could use.  I had not used mine because I also have the FreeStyle meter and
already had a cable that I purchased for it ($19.95).  Now that the original
software has been withdrawn, I sent email with my question -- and did not
even have to pay postage when they responded with the cable and alternative
software.

I did not have the old software, but ordered the update when it was
available.  The software came within a week, but the cable was
"backordered".  I waited three weeks before asking Abbott what the pin
configuration was so I could make my own.  "Proprietary" information ....
:-( ... but I figured it out (there are only two pins that can be switched,
I am not that smart) ... and I made a cable with parts from Radio Shack
(less than $5).

Using a 3/32" phono plug, Pin 2 is the furthest out, Pin 3 is the middle,
and Pin 5 is at the base.  I used an existing cable with a surge protector
and just added a conversion section.  If you would like help doing this at
home, please email me at rickfred100@hotmail.com and include "freestyle" in
the subject to get past the filters.

Thanks for the information.  Mine (both the software and the cable arrived
this week).  I prefer to us USB connections, so I need to look around for an
inexpensive adapter.

I sent off my order for the cable along with the required check for
postage and handling about 6-8 weeks ago and I am still waiting.

I think you should call their toll-free number.  I received mine in less
than two weeks, doing all communication via email (received a free cable and
software because I have a FreeStyle Flash, but there is a charge if you use
FreeStyle).

Yes, thanks MaryL, I will try that.  I have both the mini and the
regular.
