Diana - 04 Jan 2006 00:51 GMT Just want to say thank you to everyone who helped me this last seven years. You ALL are wonderful. I dearly love you all and each have a very special place in my heart.
That being said...I called for my lab work and this is all they told me and then the numbers I got I had to ask for as they just kept saying it was "good"
Liver Panel...good Thyroid...good HbA1c ... 9.4 for someone they told me three months ago I was in the beginning of renal failure...this is what my blood work showed... BUN 14 last time it was 20 and according to lab values the 14 is great. What I think is I had a kidney infection and the month of antibiotics I was on for my teeth helped that and now they are good again.
So there ya have it...thanks if you have read this after my emotional outburst once again.
Oh yeah...
Our disabled van for people that are elderly and disabled like me is only for my County not the one where my doctor and the endo is. It does not go outside my county.
Cab service would be 100 dollars round trip to the doctor and the endo.
Bus service is not in my area. It is 45 minutes away and you park and catch the Metro.
Reisa , I appreciate your kindness but I can not and will not have you come here to take me to a doctor when your are in just as much physical pain or more than me even. You are a good woman and I won't use your kindness like that. I am not home so please don't take the chance and come here as I have not moved into the new home yet. However when I do I would love to have you as a guest and have lunch with you and even swim with you this summer. That would be really fun.
I have lost all my pride, self worth and everything because of this disease and yes Loretta it has won. I can't help how I feel. It is not a pity party it is a fact that I feel I am too old to care now. My youth , looks and everything is gone. Please do not bring my past to the group. The things I told you were in confidence. I know you mean well and I do appreciate the help you have given me time and time again. You have alot to deal with your own self and your selflessness has not gone un-noticed.
Now if after reading all this if someone call tell me what an endo can do that no other doctor can do and I understand I may go to one, however I still feel it is up to me. If I don't comply then no one not even the best specialist in the world can help me. It is up to me now and any one who wants to be a support system for the long haul.
Thanks again for reading and forgive my candor but things needed to be said.
Love and Hugs to all of you from my heart of hearts.
Grandpa Chuck - 04 Jan 2006 01:03 GMT Thank you for posting this dear friend.
I will be interested to see what others have to say about what an Endo can do for you that your doctor cannot do if he/she keeps up to date on the latest treatments of diabetes.
I think you have read my posts that there are no Endos in or near Cedar Rapids. My doctor is a GP, but from what I have seen he makes every effort to stay on top of the latest information about our disease.
I hope you depression lessens as the days start getting longer.
Take care and be well.

Let us all pray that by the end of 2006 there will no longer be a reason for my sigline to contain these statistics.
The following information is given with the utmost respect for the armed forces and civilians who have died in the current war in Iraq. According to http://icasualties.org/oif/ The number of Americans killed in Iraq as of Jan. 1, 2006 is 2,180. United Kingdom = 98 Other = 103 Iraqis in excess of 30,000 according according to President Bush - probably much, much more.
Cheri - 04 Jan 2006 01:08 GMT I wouldn't know either, since I've never been to an endo for my diabetes. I did see one for the pain in my side last year. The pain is still there off and on, and I suspect the diabetes would still be there too, even if I did see him again. LOL

Thanks Chuck, I hope this depression lessens too. Thank you for being so kind and good to me. You are a dear friend. My doctor is a GP also as I left an Internist just to go to this one as I heard so many good things about him plus I knew him from when I worked as a secretary at the hospital.

I promise to call you when we are moved completely in and it is a date. You come swim with me this summer all you want. Hubby went out and bought me salad makins and I don't use anything but balsamic vinegar as dressing and it has 3 carbs per tbsp and that is all I would use of it anyways, and stuff I can eat to lose weight so tomorrow will be a new day for me. I will call my insurance company and see if there is someone closer I can go to. Is that good? :-)

Obviously you know your a1c is way too high. That ties into my other point, addressing your question "What an endo can do?" An endo who specializes in diabetes treatment can cut through all the guess work and conjecture to focus on why your bg is too high. In addition, he or she can offer specific solutions and current technology to help you bring that number down. Motivation is always key, but often times patients lose motivation when things aren't working for them. And most importantly, seeing someone new, and especially someone with expertise beyond the original doctor, gives a fresh perspective to an ongoing problem. The phrase "The rest is up to you" is not really a good one for someone who suffers from a chronic disease, it should be "The rest is up to you and your support team." That team involves your doctor, your endo, and your friends.
At the risk of sounding corny...The past is the past, today is a new day that sprouts a fresh start.
Best, Kurt

Thank you for explaining it. The one endo I did go see wanted me to attend classes and I could not do that the three times a week he wanted as hubby is a trucker and works long odd hours. Anyways thank you and I will keep researching and also call my insurance company to check on someone a tad closer.

But it's not 3 times a week forever. I highly recommend classes. Years ago my Endo stuck me in the hospital for 3 days to get me regulated and those 3 days included time with a nutritionist and diabetic educator. It wasn't a matter of just being stuck in a bed the whole time. I learned a lot of info during that whole thing, was given a pop-quiz each morning to see how well I understood what they had taught me (felt like I was a kid in school again!) and it was the best thing I could have ever done as I came away with a whole new perspective. It felt wonderful to feel like I had some control once again over this damn disease.

Actually I know a lot of people around here who never learned to swim. When I was a kid you either had to go to the YMCA or wait till summer and hope you could get into to one of the classes held at the city pools every summer. I spent every summer on my grandparents' farm so couldn't do that. I went to the classes at the YMCA once. Even at age nine it really bothered me that we were not allowed to wear anything in the pool or pool area. I just didn't feel comfortable. Still wouldn't for that matter.
My three cousins who are all around my age did learn by their dad "throwing" them into the river. Actually, he was in the water with them and taught them how to breath and to not be afraid. I always kind of envied those three boys for that. Relatives used to tell me what a great swimmer my daddy had been, but none of them took the time to teach me. My daddy died in February of '43 when I was only 2 1/2 years old.

RK - 05 Jan 2006 01:37 GMT Now what's funny, is the folks here in Ohio say they go to the beach.. Danni and look at each other theres NO beach near here. Finally we got the guts up to ask where the beach was. LMAO, they go to "Lake Erie" or "Lake Michigan" -- both a far cry from a beach for me.

You can see the gulls, the cranes, the eagles, Canada geese, ducks and during their migration the pelicans. Of course you can also see the fishermen in their bass boats and john boats along with he sail boats and some rather large cabin cruisers. And last, but not least, you can see the houses along the shore on the other side of the lake. No surf coming off of it, but then we don't have any Nor'easters either. :-)

I am sorry if you felt that way.
All I know is that when I went to the gp, I was uncontrolled for about two years. Then I went to the endo and he gave me the right meds, how to take them, how to manage my diabetes . He is a specialist.
I am sorry that the access a ride doesnt go out of your county. In New York , it goes to the five counties. That is sh.t.
Does the doctor have night time hours. If so, could your husband or your daughter take you there.
There has to be some way you can get to a doctor.
What about the rest of your family
We all have choices, Diana, It breaks my heart that your choice is not the one to fight and live.
I have always been there for you.

Ozgirl - 04 Jan 2006 21:40 GMT > Does the doctor have night time hours. If so, could your husband or > your daughter take you there. Probably doesn't relate to services there but here for example... recently I needed to see a gyn but couldn't afford the up front fee nor the out of pocket gap after Medicare rebate (if I could have come up with the $120 or so to see a specialist). I got a referral to the hospital gyn in the outpatient clinics from my doctor who works in a medical centre now - means there is bulk billing, i.e. I pay nothing, the doctor receives payment from the Govt (a percentage of the full fee). The gyn then looks at the referrals and sees everyone based on his idea of who is more urgent. I got to see him in less than 3 weeks. All for free, all local.
