I was just reading through many of my old posts when I was a member of
this group (@ summer 2000) I realized I have changed so much for the
better and yet I am no longer part of a community or diabetic support
system. I miss that. Hopefully I will find a home here again. Loeretta,
I hope you remember me. I am in NY too. I was so happy to see your
post. I have a ton of things to tell you. I have been on the pump
almost 2 years. It was the best thing I have ever done. It only took me
22 years of shots to finally "give in." I cannot imagine injections.
I hope everyone is happy and well this holiday season. I look forward
to getting reaquainted.

I am not Loretta but wanted to welcome you back. I am glad you came back to
the very best group on the net. I do remember you and I am glad you want to
be part of ASD once again.

Diana!!
Hello how have you been? Thank you so very much. I have grown up so
much since then. I turned 30 and finally got my act together just
around the time I was in this group. Sometimes it takes a scare to get
things back on track. I hope you are well!!!

Hi Amy :-)

I am doing ok these days. Ups and Downs like others but hanging in there
which is tough most of the time. However !!! it is so good to see your
positive attitude. I hope it rubs off on me LOL. I remember you as always
being mature.

Happy belated 30th birthday :-)

How do you like being on the pump? Was it hard to learn? A nurse from my
insurance company told me once I should try to get one but I want to hold
out until absolutely necessary.

Take care and gosh it is so good to have you back :-)

Why, oh why?

Everyone that I know that has gone to the pump loves it. With the
control problems you have had I would think you are a prime candidate.
They say it is so much easier than having to do the injections.

Well, that's my two cents worth Sis. After all, I am still doing oral
meds and hope I continue to for a very long time to come or maybe even
lose enough weight to go off one or both of those. I just want you to
use every tool available to you that may help.

Luv ya Sis,

Hi Chuck,
I had forgotten some of my doc visit conversation from the other day. He
actually wants me to go off insulin. He said that insulin makes me hungry
therefore very hard to lose the weight. He was not angry with me just upset.
See part of the time he was not my doctor. I only started seeing him in the
late spring I think so he only knows of the few pounds I have lost since he
has been my doctor.

He wants me to see an ophthalmologist even though I go to Walmart for
glasses. He also wants me to see an endo however the person he referred me
to in the outer office gave me the name of an eye doctor by mistake. All the
endos around here are too far for me to drive and I have been to one before
and he wanted me to go without my meds for a month at that time and I was
without and was very afraid to do that.

So much is happening in my life that is stressful and I really don't see a
way out.

I feel like going off all the medications and losing the weight like I use
to.

The main reason I do not want the pump is I don't know math very well and
calculations of A=B is C whatever that stuff is I just have never been very
good at.

The math is no more difficult than counting your change in the shop. You
said that you want to "hold out until absolutely necessary" which sounds a
bit like you think it is some kind of failure on your part. It is NOT a
failure, just a greatly improved technique, and often smaller amounts of
insulin are needed than when injecting.

Well, that is a whole other ball game isn't it?
Do you trust your doctor?
If so, by all means follow his advise.
If not, by all means find one that you do.

I assume you have told him how much you did weigh.

Oh my!
I figured you knew that ALL diabetics need to see an ophthalmologist
at least one a year. This is extremely important.

I don't know your insurance situation. Ours pays all of it except for
my ten dollar copay. If I want a vision exam I have to pay for that,
but it isn't all that much.

That is something you need to work out with your doctor and your
transportation situation.

Don't try to move the whole mountain at once. Move one stone at a
time. That is, take it a step at a time you before you know it you
will look behind you and see that much of what you thought you
couldn't do has been done.

>I feel like going off all the medications and losing the weight like I use

And what happens to your BG when you do that?

From what I have seen in people I know who have the pump math skills
are not all that important in using it. Besides, someone would work
with you for quite a little while until you are comfortable doing it
yourself.

Whatever you decide dear heart, we will be here to give you support.

Hi Amy, good to see you again.
Loretta Eisenberg - 30 Dec 2005 15:13 GMT
Amy, I have too many senior moments,  I am sorry but I dont remember,
but maybe my memory will be jarred as we speak.

Welcome back.  It is so nice to know that there is always a place for
diabetics to come back to.

Welcome back Amy.

I do remember the name, but I'm sorry to say little else.

I look forward to reading your updates.

Take care and be well.
