Ha! Ha! Good one! But not true, because I don't go. I bike ride and
walk instead.

Those are two of my favorite activities. A close third is lap
swimming. A distant fourth is the gym.

I think all of you have GREAT resolutions.... Mind if I borrow them, and
adopt them as my own?

I don't make resolutions and I don't make promises that I may not be
able to keep.

I don't know that I have any *diabetes* resolutions, other than to muddle
along as I have been for these past several years.
I do have *goals* -- some related to racing & club participation; some
related to "get my house in order"; and some about "get my paperwork
tamed!". But these are also continued on from this year, & aren't
diabetes-related.

I think most of us talk about New Year resolutions, with tongue in cheek, as
it were..... Nevertheless, I respectfully submit that it is very important
for us who take this disease seriously to set realistic goals for ourselves
to act as a guide for daily living. Sometimes, considering "New Year"
resolutions acts as a reminder of what we need to be thinking about, as long
as they are realistic.....

You beet me to this one. I was thinking of a topic along this exact
line. But thanks for the head start. I have never been so focused in my
life with having such concrete goals. But having identified with
diabetes has changed me inside out. Clear identifiable goals I can use
to measure myself has been enormously motivational activity at least
for me and my whole family. Having caught sleeping on the wheel with no
exercise routine and Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1C) > 15 I had got my
kick in the butt all right. That was July 2005.
Almost 5 and half months and strict plant based high protein high fiber
diet I am happy to report all my numbers are near normal or better. Yes
good part of that is daily exercise I do. Its 30 min at home situps and
pushups. There is an Indian variation to these that I do. Overall
weight loss is 20 Lbs. I am now 165 at 5'110" Lost 4" at my waist.
Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1C) numbers are at 5.7 Take Metformin twice
a day 500 Mg at a time.
So far so good. But by this time next year I would like to see another
5-8 lbs weight loss. HbA1C number around low 5 and Metformin reduced to
no more than 500 Mg a day.
Its a doable goal. But I am fully aware how hard it is to stay
disciplined. I work long hours and have to travel quite a bit. So
staying within tight parameters will take a bit of an efforts. But I
have to say that the rewards are just terrific. I have gotten over most
of my peripheral neuropathy in my feet. Boy am I happy for that. So I
am quite motivated to keep my regimen.
I do want to say that the diet I have undertaken along with my exercise
are both some what non-traditional. But the results are marvelous. And
for the record I am enormously enjoying my changed lifestyle. Yes my
taste buds are much more mature and are allowing me to try new things
quite willingly!
Thanks are also due to so many of you who write here so consistently
allowing person like me to learn and implement ideas. I have zero help
from my doctor or any Endo professional. I test myself 3-6 times a day,
watch my weight every day, and that is all I need for day to day
feedback!
Let's see how I measure up against my own goals.
Wishing you all a very healthy New Year! Let your numbers talk!
