I have been buying Carb Countdown chocolate milk drink. It taste
pretty good but the supply has become unreliable around here lately.
They had several juice blends but have totally discontinued that
product line.
Anyhow, was watching Alton Brown (Food Network, Good Eats)where Alton
did a chocolate show. One item was chocolate syrup. 3 cups of sugar.
Way to many carbs for me, so I experimented and modified his recipe,
sorry Alton.
Here goes;
1 3/4 cups of water (used 1 1/2 and had to add water to thin the
syrup)
1 1/2 cups of cocoa powder.
I used Hershey's, had it on hand. Alton used Dutch process
cocoa powder.
3 cups Splenda for cooking
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
Bring the water to boil, stir in splenda, then cocoa, then remaining
items. Reduce as desired. Strain, cool and transfer to storage
container. Empty squeeze bottle would be great.
I put 4 teaspoons in a glass of milk and it tasted nice and rich.
The complete recipe looks like it would make about 1 1/2 gallons of
chocolate milk. Should be good on a cheese cake or low carb ice
cream.
Carbs are very low. If your like me and use to enjoy a nice glass of
chocolate milk then give this a try without concern for hidden sugars.

Yum! I bought some Dutch process cocoa from the Pennsylvania Dutch
country, so I may try this!
