Avandamet and blood pressure

Before I began taking Avandamet, my BP was averaging 135/75. After about 5
or 6 weeks of taking Avandamet it has risen to about 170/88 and is the
systolic is sometimes over 200 in the morning after getting out of bed.

I take Nadalol - 120mg
Altace 5mg
and 1/2 of a water pill.

I have a doctor's appointment Tuesday, but would like to know if anyone else
taking Avandamet has noticed change in their BP. I haven't noticed any
retention of fluids, but my weight has increased a few pounds.

My BG is doing very well averaging about 120.

Thank you,
Ron

Ron,

Yes. I saw my blood pressure rise on the same drug combination. My
doctor put me on a trial of Avandia, added to my existing Metformin
prescription.  I got very puffy and my blood pressure, when measured in
his office, was a lot higher than it had been in many years--170/95 if I
recall correctly. Before starting the Avandia, the highest he'd measured
it at in the past 3 years was 140/85.

I was also having headaches, which I thought might be from the edema,
but I'm not sure.  He took me off it.

Thanks for your input. I'll mention this to my doctor this Tuesday!

I also have been having some mild headaches. I thought it was from reading
so much, but I'll also, mention this to the doctor.

Would suspect you are eating more.  This often results in increased
sodium intake.

If you eat less, this should also improve along with BP.

You are welcome, Ron :-)

You either know or you don't.  This is not a matter of probability.

You should contact your doctor.  If tuesday is the soonest then go
with that.  Your doctor is your best source of information.

Most of the posters here are just diabetics like yourself. Some are
very knowledgeable others less so.   Our post may be informative but
not medical instructions.

We also have Usenet trolls.  Chung is a troll!

Ouch.  You may have at the other cheek.

Where are you getting Avandamet?  I cannot find a source to fill an
Avandamet prescription--everyone claims to be out of it.

Sure, you can always take Avandia and Metformin separately, and
co-pay twice.  But Avandamet is cheaper for me, and may even be
cheaper for the insurance company, I don't know.
