Hi Alan,

One way to bring up that HDL value is exercise and it should have an
impact on your Hba1c too. How are you doing with exercise. Take care.

i exercise in a mild but regular way, coz RA won't allow much else. i
wonder, plz, if you can tell me if statins would bring the HDL up, i believe
i don't need them to put LDL or trigs down.

tyvm for the good wishes.

Hi Alan,

Although I did hear that station may raise the HDL value, I also heard
many horor story about the side effects of taking statin. However, I
was adviced to take fish oil (the liquid form), nuts (almond, walnut,
macadamia, etc.), 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and exercise to
improve the HDL. I'm not qualified to give you any info. about
medication and try not to take any if I don't have to. I don't know
what you meant with RA, but if you have some difficulty in exercising,
you can try yoga and tai chi. Take care.

that is useful info, thank you. i gotta see my doc on Thursday, so i shall
talk with him about it, as well as the liver probs -- if probs they are.

Rheumatoid Arthritis. autoimmune damage to the synovial linings of the
joints, in my case; but other causes do exist. if i exercise heavily i swell
up and lose mobility, but gentle exercise is not a problem.

i live out in the sticks, so a yoga course or tai chi might not be available
nearby. the town close is only a small market town, but i will look into
that next week. i can't do it sooner coz of the weekend, and even more
importantly coz i stay awake at night listening to the cricket match, so i
am asleep during the day. cricket is much more important than dm [tongue in
cheek]

and to you.

Alan, a gentle walk of 30 minutes a day is
sufficient exercise to show an improvement in HDL
levels

as for the 'dangers' of a statin......... you have
a mucsle and liver enzyme test done BEFORE you
start the statin and again at the 6 week
level........... that will tell you if the statin
is causing muscle problems or liver problems for
you

there are a lot of people who are very verbal
about how bad statin is for you (sorry, not a poke
at the bloke who mentioned this) and they don't
support their information other than a study of
one.......... i'm sure if you suffer any side
affects from a statin you will notice it and
simply quit the statin

both myself and my partner are on statin therapy
for chol levels

i do that most days, now i shall make sure i do it every day. gotta be
careful which way i go, coz if i go past the tattoo studio -- well, i can't
go "past". them tattoos are addictive, for me at any rate. LOL [repeat NO

i have read that b4 somewhere, but i forgot it. thanks for reminding me. i
might find it in the deep and dark and mysterious depths of my hard disks,
or backups on CD, tape, DVD, or wherever it might be. i gotta get it all
indexed some way or another.

besides, i trust my present doc more than i ever trusted any other b4.

i'm a study of one

the statin's (simvastatin specifically) has
increased my already high HDL (the good one) and
it's reduced my LDL and Triglicerides at the same
time

i'm still close to 5.0 on my total Chol........
but that's because the HDL is so high for me

I only have one point of comparison, but my HDL actually went down a bit
after I started a statin. However, it went down only to about where it's
usually been the last 3-4 years. My LDL went down about 40%, which was fine
& the reason for the statin; I don't have a problem with tri's anyway, but
they didn't change much.
