My doctor has just put me on Avandia for my type 2 diabetes. I am having
sensations of being high as if I've had many beers or mixed drinks.
Are any of you having side effects from the use of this medicine?
Thanks

How's your BG (blood glucose)? I presume you are checking it? If not, you
should be. Check it any time you feel weird or ill. You might be having a
hypo. If so, you need to eat or drink something with about 15 g of carbs in
it.

You are probably hypoglycemic. Check the BGV.

On meds I must plan every meal and snack and never go more than 4 hours
without food. I would test frequently while you're in the learning
curve so you'll know when your sugar goes low.

I just concluded a 3 week test of a low dose of Avandia.
I most definitely got head-rushes the first couple times I took it,
about 2 hours after taking it. My energy was much higher for the rest of
the first week.
My blood sugars were pretty much the same as usual, BTW. These effects
were not from lows.
Unfortunately, these effects wore off and I started to puff up with
fluid and by the 3rd week I had a nonstop headache, constipation, and a
face full of zits (unusual for me.)

with some proactive input my reading are in the 4.5 to 7.0 range last
blood test 6.5 taking 1 only 4mg vanda a day and a supplementry
treatment called gluco-factors. but i did have to cut out all wheat

Why did you have to give up gluten products when you started on Avandia?
I have had rashes, etc. from eating wheat
bread and wonder if it has to do with
Avandia, which I am also taking.
Thanks,
Joanne

g'day joan,
don't think i said exactly that i found i had to give up all that
stuff to get control of my t2, i cut out those things before avandia,
i came from 2 other high dose drugs to this one and get great control.

Been on Avandia - 4mg for three months and haven't had that sensation or
feeling at all. Only side effect I have is that my daily rising bg is
down about 30 to 40 points. ;)
