A recent discussion here about whey powder got me looking for this product
once again. Most commonly available from retailers to the body building
crowd, my difficulties in the past were due to the practise of including
some kind of carby additive in the products I did come across.

However, I have discovered, for anyone interested in trying it, that Solgar
now stocks one,  called "Whey to go".  It comes in two  flavours, vanilla
and chocolate, the vanilla is totally carb free, but the chocolate one has
28.57g carbs per 100 g. (8g per serve).

The vanilla flavoured version ingredients are:
Micro-filtered whey protein isolates, ion-exchanged why protein concentrate,
whey protein hydrolsate, free form l-Glutamine, free form chain amino acids
(Leucine, Valine and Isoleucine). Natural vanilla bean flavour. Contains 80%
whey protein.
It is free from:
Yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, corn sucrose and preservatives. Total carb
content 5g per 100g of product (1g per 20g serve).

No, I am NOT involved in any way in selling or promoting this product! This
info is just sent for those who might be interested.

And the Dawn phenomenon thing? Drunk before retiring at night, it lowered my
fasting readings in the morning by about approx 40 points. (a little over
2.0 mmol/L).   YMMV.

Very useful information, Annette, about the effect on FBG!

I'd like to just mention that in my house, Solgar's product didn't pass
the taste test, but Designer Protein original flavor does.  No interest
in either product.

A second runner up, much cheaper than DP is (in the U.S.) Trader Joe's
whey protein powder, though the texture requires extra effort at blending.

I also use whey protein now and make my own liquid meals with other
ingredients when I don't feel like
eating or cooking.
if I only had 5 carbs for a bed time snack I would have a liver dump for
sure.
I wonder if someone has a liver dump early enough in the night can they wake
up
with what looks like a lower fbs but did have a liver dump while they slept.
unless the drink had a ton of fat.
