60 Minutes interview,  Hillary's dark #9 incisor ?

This past Sunday while watching 60 Minutes on CBS,  I couldn't help
but focus on Hillary Clinton's # 9 central incisor.
Now to be fair,  I wasn't sure what I was seeing or if others were
seeing the same thing.  The reason is that the TV set I was viewing
was a older cheap 13 inch model with rabbit ears and I live in a
valley where we often get ghost images and other poor reception.

Now all that,  TV performance aside,  I kept getting the image of her
# 9 tooth being VERY much darker than # 8.   I couldn't imagine this
could be so obvious and her not having had something done to it
previously.
Was I just getting bad reception or was the lighting on 60 Minutes
just showing it in very bad way?
I don't seem to recall ever seeing it look so bad.
I kept getting a very dark image of it compared to # 8.

Personally having a crown in my # 9 and a natural # 10,   I have seen
them show a sharper contrast under certain lighting.   Other times
they look OK,  although never perfect.

On my set this past Sunday,  her # 9 looked so dark that it almost
gave the impression of it being a dead discolored tooth,  however I
believe it is just a natural vital tooth next to a lighter crown on
number 8

Let me link you to a Photoshop discussion site or page that instructs
one on how to make the teeth look better in photos...   On this site
you see Hillary in the original and then  various touch ups.   While
darker in the original photo on this site,  it still doesn't look as
poor as what I saw (on my set) on 60 Minutes.

I couldn't take my eyes off the "dark" tooth.
Anyone else have that problem?   How many votes will she lose because
of her teeth?

I hadn't noticed that before, and it is possible that many of the
photos I've seen have been photoshopped.
In the photo at left, it appears that the right central and lateral
incisors, as well as the left first molar, have PFM crowns.  They are
not only too white but also very opaque.  You can see the gingival
margin of the crown on #8 exposed.  The color differential would be
lessened by vital bleaching of the darker teeth, but it's not likely to
eliminate the difference in color.  On the plus side, her gingival tone
looks OK.
Seriously, even dentists would rate this rather low in importance as an
issue.

You are probably correct in most areas of the nation, for most
patients,  but you'd find a completely different opinion if you dealt
with patients in the Los Angeles area who made their living appearing
on television.

Like it or not,  most of us get our impression of presidential
candidates on television.
Once I noticed this color differential in # 8 and # 9,  it kept
appearing more and more.
Like someone with spinach between the two front teeth.
Now, I wish you could have seen the 60 Minutes piece because there was
something about the lighting  that caught the teeth in such a way that
# 9 appeared non-vital and suffering from internal stains.
You know, typical dead tooth but with a tinge of brown instead of just
gray.

I'm guessing it was actually the contrast you noted and that the
adjacent crowns just reflected the light to a far greater degree than
# 9.

Perhaps you didn't see the interview Sunday.  Here is the link.  I
have a low speed dialup connection so I can't see what it looks like
over the internet as opposed to the broadcast version.
Take a look and tell me what you think.

You're right, the color discrepency looks obvious.  However, I think it
is being exaggerated by the camera and lighting angle, which appears to
reflect off the PFM crown on #8.
When taking shades for crowns, they tell you to take it in natural
light (we were told north light at 11 AM.  But you're not going to be in
north light all day long.  Back in the disco days there was a lot of
black lights in the clubs, and the fluorescent qualities of dental
restorations led to some rather amusing affects.
I'm not really concerned about Hillary's dental health.  There's enough
discussion about her hair and her cleavage episode.

I think I've seen way too much of Hillary already.  Considering her
obvious efforts to improve her appearance, it is surprising that she
didn't put much effort into her smile.

Ah, so you don't care who is elected president?

I have little to no intention to draw you into a political discussion,
if that's what you mean.

Vaughn S. from Florida.  I could write in his name  :-)

You can't write in my name.  US Constitution forbids me to be President.

True, but there is nothing in the Constitution that forbids me to write in
your name on by ballot (or touch-screen or whatever).  By the way, there is one
President, Chester Arthur, who is suspected by some historians of actually being
a Canadian.

Since this thread is off topic anyhow, I may as well take advantage of it to
announce that I became a grandfather for the second time just less than an hour
ago.  Break out the virtual stogies!

  Pretty impressive Gramps.

The winner is often the one who is least voted against.  Dems got some
trouble there.

So do the Repubs.  How could I possibly vote for someone who still (after all
that has happened) thinks that Iraq was a good idea and that we should "stay the
course"?

On the other hand, how could I possibly vote for someone who calls himself
(or herself) a democrat, yet thinks it is perfectly OK to disenfranchise two
entire states from the primary process?  If they are willing to slap millions of
citizens in the face while they are running for office, what would they be
willing do do once they are IN office?  I don't want to find out.  Therefore, I
won't be voting for any Democrats for President this year.
Dartos - 13 Feb 2008 22:22 GMT
Point well taken.  It would appear that an electable moderate would
be the overwhelming favorite if the real America would just stand
up.  The liberal left and righteous right are both offensive to many
of us.

Sorry for getting political.  I'll not continue the thread.

Curious how you got from 60 Minutes to that website.
