Got my crown 18 months ago and it fell off last Friday.
When the dentist put it in and asked me how it felt, I specifically
told him it didn't feel right.
He assured me I'd get used to it, that it would feel right in time.
It popped off friday and another dentist told me to tooth stump had
decayed so bad, the only solution is a dental implant. This is my
front tooth and I look horrible with the tooth missing.
I should say, that I did not have my teeth cleaned (by a hygienst) in
18 months.
What are my options?

Options:
1) get a second opinion (or a third)
2) return to first dentist and discuss it
3) make a commitment to get your teeth checked often enough to catch
problems like this before they get so bad
4) new crown
5) RCT and new crown
6) implant
7) bridge
8) smile like a jack-O-lantern

Other factors should be considered in your decision:
1. Do you have a sugar habit between meals (usually soft drinks)?
2. Are you brushing and flossing effectively?
3. Are you a clencher and/or grinder?
4. Are you following the 'best recommendation' of the dentist,
or just picking the least expensive?
5. Are you going to a competent dentist, or just one listed on
your insurance list? (these aren't necessarily mutually exclusive
if you have decent insurance and not an HMO or capitation plan).
