Had a crown done on my front tooth a year and a half ago and Friday,
the crown pops off. Went to a different dentist today and he says
there's decay on the stump which is why probably why the crown popped
off.

He also said the stump is not salvageable so I'll have to have root
canal and an implant.

Is this normal?

It's likely to be one or the other.
