2nd CT Scan necessary?

Had a CT Scan on May 2006 before placing implants in upper right in
Feb 07.

Now it is time (past time) to get the crowns on those upper implants
(3 and 4). But the student dentist who will be doing the crowns told
me he thinks they need another CT Scan? Is this correct, or is he
mistaken?

I ask this specifically because it was never part of my Treatment Plan
(done 2/21/07) and I don't want to get a 2nd CT scan unless it's
really necessary or at least *highly recommended*.

I don't really see why it would be necessary - the implants are in and
have been in since Feb. 07 - either they're going to fail, or not, no?
Or is it that putting crowns on implants that aren't strong enough
might cause further complications than without the crowns? Just
wondering if another CT scan is really necessary or is this just
student dentistry overkill? Isn't an xray or two enough?

Ordinarily I can think of no need for a CAT after fixture placement,
unless there is suspicion something is not right.  You deserve an
explanation.

Thanks a lot Dr. Bornfeld!

You've been a great help to me since this whole process started 2
years ago! (others here have too)

I found out today that he didn't hear me when I told him on the phone
the other day that I was just getting CROWNS on already-implanted
implants. He thought he was starting the implant process, thus the CT
scan. Or so I assume. We have an appt. for next week, so if at that
time anything about the CT scan comes up I'll demand an explanation.
I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding.
